United Kingdom Love Exposure (Sion Sono) - 6th August 2012

Third Window Films are releasing Love Exposure on BluRay on the 6th August 2012. No word on any video/audio specs yet but it looks like this release will carry over the hour long making of documentary and include the 40 minutes of deleted scenes that were missing from the DVD release.

Love Exposure Blu-ray REVIEW

Quote:
Having grown up in a devout Christian family, Yu (Takahiro Nishijima) has always been a well-behaved kid. After his mother dies, his priest father is seduced by a woman who breaks his heart, causing him to torment Yu by forcing him to confess his sins on a daily basis. Of course, being a fairly normal kid, Yu has no legitimate sins to confess. To appease his increasingly demanding father, Yu is determined to become a true sinner, eventually training to become an expert at sneak upskirt photography. Pornography being the one sin no priest can overlook, Yu gets the attention he s been so desperately seeking from his dad.

One day while hanging out with his fellow sinner pals but dressed like Sasori as punishment for being on the losing end of a bet Yu meets a beautiful girl named Yoko (Hikari Mitsushima). Their first meeting is a glorious one, beginning with an all-out street brawl and ending with a kiss. There are only two problems: she thinks he s a woman and a devious cult leader named Aya (Sakura Ando) is carefully manipulating both of their lives.

The gif you just posted is making Avast very unhappy Anyway if you're pointing out the strange-ness of the plot clearly you're unfamiliar with Sono, this movies actually (albeit a little loosely) based on a true story

This was a great cooky film, don't know whether I'd watch it more than once, but it's good it's coming to Blu

I've had this pre-ordered since it was available. I didn't know it was going to have all those deleted scenes...that's great news. Can't wait to see them.

I decided to use some points I'd earned at CD Japan and get the Japanese BD. It's region-free and has English subtitles. No extras, but I have the Third Window DVD. I do own a region-free player, but given the choice, I'd rather have a copy I can play anywhere.

Olive always seems to use 25gb discs. I won't be surprised if they put all 4 hours on a single layered disc and don't include any extras.

The original Third Window DVD release doesn't have the deleted scenes or half hour interview with Sono and the person the movie is based on, neither does the Japanese BluRay, so you're missing out and spending more?

Like I said, I'd prefer a copy that's not region locked. I have the region B BDs of Cold Fish and Guilty of Romance, and it's a bit of an annoyance to have to watch them on a particular player. I was able to watch some of the deleted scenes on YouTube. Who knows - maybe I'll double dip on the Third Window Blu-ray later on after the price has come down a bit.

That doesn't sound too good... I'm waiting for that release, but considering I have their DVD release which doesn't have any of the extras either, I hope I won't be re-buying it for barely a reason. I had this UK one pre-ordered, but like you say, region B is just an extra hassle each time.

Is it region B locked? What about censorship? The Japanese BD (which looks great as well) is slightly censored in one scene and the UK BD might be using the same transfer. Not that it would be a deal breaker - it's only a few seconds.

Yeah it's Region B locked. The runtime reads 03:56:38.

A timecode would be helpful to really find out, but the new transfer is supervised by Sono so if it's been added in from the previous DVD you could take it as the directors preferred edit of whichever scene it is (i'm almost sure i know which one it is, and i question why you would want to see it uncensored )

Region B locked. Sorry, but that's the contract.

Regarding censorship, the Japanese version is indeed censored for the scene in which Sakura Ando cuts off her father's penis. It's not cut out, but it has a mosaic over it.

There was a new master (with mosaic) made by Sion Sono for the Japanese blu-ray as he didn't like the previous master, so that master was sold to us and Olive in the States, but we have, using the previous HD master which we had from earlier, re-edited in the scene so it doesn't have a mosaic. This would mean our version is completed uncut, while the Japanese, and most probably the Olive release, is edited.

Also, just signed up on here, so feel free to send any questions this way, or email anything ever to adam@thirdwindowfilms.com

Not that I didn't think you guys were cool anyway, but that mosaic removal makes you even cooler in my book.

Hats off to you!

I agree-- and thanks for the contribution. Always nice to see that on these forums. I'm a growing admirer/customer of your products, myself.

As for the Olive release, I guess I'll have to wait to see how that's handled... for what it's worth, their DVD release was most definitely not censored during that scene. I'm starting to question which version I should get...

I doubt Olive will go to the trouble to re-edit in the uncensored version of the scene from a previous master. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I think Third Window's version will be the winner as far as extras too. I definitely appreciate the care they put into their releases.

Wow ! Thanks for the extra work and care over the release. Just received mine today and can't wait to see the film again. I haven't seen it since its festival run on the big screen.

I wonder if we'll ever see a subtitled release of the extended miniseries cut?

I wonder if this has a shot a remaster one of these days or perhaps too niche.
