Default activision knows the ps3 not afraid to brag

When it comes to development, there a lot of companies that are still trying to figure out Sony's PS3.

It's a still a relatively new technology, and it's certainly easier to work on platforms that they already know and are comfortable with.

Activision, on the other hand, appears to have a firm grip on what it takes to make quality product for PlayStation 3. And they're quite proud of it.

“What you are seeing with many publishers is they are unable to simultaneously develop and launch on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Instead, they develop and release one SKU at a time or they simply don’t release a PS3 SKU at all. Call of Duty 4 represents the best-in-class next-generation development, making it the number one selling title of all time on the PS3," said Michael J. Griffith, president & CEO of Activision's Publishing during the latest conference call discussing earnings.

“Over the past year, our central technology group has created a proprietary set of tools for next-gen development that has enabled our developers to address the challenging PS3 architecture in efficient ways. Our tools allow us to identify performance bottlenecks in the PS3 and focus our effort in a targeted way to improve performance that would otherwise without these tools simply be a trial-and-error approach.”
thats part of it

COD4's success falls squarely on the shoulders of Infinity Ward and noone else. For Activision to proclaim their mastery of the PS3 based solely on this is ludicrous. Infinity Ward's work would make any publisher shine.

Call of Duty 3 and Spider-Man 3, which were both developed by Treyarch, suffered from a host of framerate and anti-aliasing issues.

Neversoft, who has been their most "successful" developer, has now dropped the ball three times on PS3 games. Tony Hawk's Project 8 was very glitchy, full of aliasing problems, and lacked online multiplayer. Tony Hawk's Proving Ground was uninspired, glitchy, and looked worse than Project 8. Guitar Hero III has some good tracks, but it played it too safe and is more like Guitar Hero 2.5.

Activision has not mastered the PS3 yet. Infinity Ward knows how to code the PS3, but that's it.
