Why are blu-rays released to other countries but not in the United States? I always wondered that. such as American Beauty , Commando, and predartor?

commando and predator are coming in March

Alot of it has to do with who has the distribution rights in that specific country

I thought this was discussed many times before. The production companies and the distribution companies are not always the same. Different companies release movies in other countries. For example, American Beauty has the following production and distribution companies:

Because many times different studios release/distribute those movies overseas. Those overseas studios/distributors dictate when they'll release certain movies, independently from US studios. Not to mention that with this format war and divided studio support many US HD exclusive titles were released in Europe by Blu-ray supporting studios and vice versa.

BTW, Predator and Commando ARE going to be released in the US the same time they're released in Europe, on 04-15-08.
