Default D.O.A. (Rocky Morton & Annabel Jankel, 1988) -- Kino, October 30th, 2018

Rocky Morton & Annabel Jankel's neo-noir gets a new Blu this October:

Quote:
Coming October 30th on DVD and Blu-ray!

D.O.A. (1988) with optional English subtitles

Color 97 Minutes 1.85:1 Rated R
Time is running out for Dexter Cornell (Dennis Quaid, The Big Easy, Far from Heaven). He has just 24 hours to find out who poisoned him... and why. In his bizarre and deadly search, everyone has a secret. Everyone is a suspect. Even the woman (Meg Ryan, Sleepless in Seattle) who loves him. Directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, creators of superstar "Max Headroom," D.O.A. pulsates with explosive action and sizzling performances by Quaid and Ryan, two people who find themselves suddenly living on the edge. It's a night on the run, filled with fear, danger... and passion. The stellar cast features Charlotte Rampling (Farewell, My Lovely), Daniel Stern (Celtic Pride), Jane Kaczmarek (TV’s Malcolm in the Middle), Robin Johnson (Times Square), Brion James (Blade Runner), John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone), Robert Knepper (TV’s Twin Peaks), Jack Kehoe (Serpico) and Elizabeth Arlen (The First Power).

Special Features:
• Audio Commentary by co-director Annabel Jankel
• Audio Commentary by co-director Rocky Morton
• 5.1 Surround and 2.0 Lossless Audio
• Theatrical Trailer

Bring on those Mill Creek upgrades. Kino's artwork is definitely better.

This movie features the most ridiculous updating of being handcuffed you will ever see
[Show spoiler]when Quaid superglues himself to Meg Ryan

I'm glad I never purchased the Mill Creek release. Hopefully a label like Criterion releases the original.

Figures as I recently got the MC blu. Now I'll have to buy a few more so they'll get instant KL announcements.

Has anyone seen the Kino version? Is it better PQ/audio than the Mill Creek release?

I've owned both and, to my eyes at least, they look/sound identical. Much like Kino's release of Another Stakeout, it's pretty much a straight re-release of the same transfer.

I love the movie, so it was worth it for me to repurchase just for the commentary.

The commentary is what would be holding me back from purchasing the film through MillCreek's "Suspense 4-in-1 Collection" release that is going for cheap on eBay. The only problem is this Kino disc appears OOP and doesn't have anything cheaper than $30 that I can find.

One way or the other, if you want it I'd grab it now. Since it's owned by Disney these could very well be the last physical media releases it will ever get.
