This is a generally amusing Russian sci fi horror that sadly only comes with a horrendous, unconvincing English dub track. The film would've benefited so greatly from a Russian language track and English subs, even though some of the characters can be seen speaking their lines in English. The rest of the cast are not speaking English, and regardless, the English dub track's dialogue deliveries are horrid.
I even imported the German 4k uhd disc, in hopes of watching it in German instead, which does help a lot, and is far better than the English dub. But sadly, the German 4k disc has no English subtitles, and my German isn't quite good enough to follow all the dialogue without English subs. I wonder if a Russian audio track even exists. Otherwise, I may have to put this film in my pile of flicks that I'm going to have to learn how to burn to a drive, and drop the English subtitles from the USA blu ray onto the German 4k uhd transfer, just so I can tolerate the film, which is far less hokey and far more entertaining without the awful, distracting, rigid, emotionless, poorly done English dub. This reminds me of my experiences long ago with the early USA dvd release for the cool German sci fi horror flick "Blood Glacier". The first USA dvd only contained an equally horrendous, comically-bad English dub track. Years later, another dvd was finally released, this time with the original German audio track, and English subs. It was utterly transformative, making it one of my favorite off-the-wall modern foreign sci-fi horror films. I spun that dvd dozens of times. There is STILL no English-friendly blu ray disc for Blood Glacier to this day, but I have the all-German blu ray anyway. I have seen the DVD with English subs so many times that I know what is going on, and can just watch the German blu now combined with my basic understanding of German. I was hoping Superdeep would be a similar situation, but I fear I will have to "make my own", and just pretend they're Germans instead of Russians ![]() Last edited by DaylightsEnd; 08-11-2022 at 09:08 PM. |
