Star Wars: Next Film And Director Announced In January

While all eyes are naturally on next month's Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, there is also lots of interest in Lucasfilm's next move in terms of the franchise. While The Hollywood Reporter has heard that a new film is tentatively scheduled for 2022, we'll have to wait until January to discover who will direct it.

As part of a wider Reporter piece on her future with the films, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy says that the company (and corporate overlords Disney) is taking its time to decide the future of that galaxy far, far away. But the new movie will not be one of the new, non-Skywalker films under development by Rian Johnson, and with the departure of Game Of Thrones duo David Benioff and DB Weiss, there's a slot to be filled in the direction of the future movies.

We'll find out soon enough, though there's speculation that The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni could be involved, given their combined links to both Lucasfilm and the Mouse House

If he ends up getting the director's chair, I'm out.

Until next week when they announce they will be putting Star Wars movies on hiatus for the 3rd time. I believe the saying is "Piss or get off the pot"

I hope it’s about the Rose, Rey, and Holodo vagina monologues...in a galaxy far far away for 2 hours...only shown on screens near anyone who still is griping in the TLJ thread.

It's a Baby Yoda spin-off.

If TRoS is what everyone is expecting it will be from these leaks, a LOT of people may be out.

I kind of feel for a Disney actually. I don’t think many fans have reasonable expectations. They hated the new direction of TLJ, they hate when it’s too similar. It sounds like the Stars have to align to make SW fans happy.

Can we just keep the SW pot simmering with Disney+ TV shows, and not make another big-screen SW movie for another ten years or so? The audience is fractured and increasingly dissatisfied with EVERYTHING, and the brand needs to go away for a while and make people miss it before it returns.

I don't. They're trying to turn SW into a commodity that was never intended. The *ONE THING* that made it special was that there were so few movies to draw from.

Now all they want to do is squeeze every last drop of blood from that stone. SW fans will never be satisfied because they never had anything for decades at a time other than their imaginations and everyone's imagination is different. If we had been inundated with Star Wars for 40 years, it would be a vastly different situation.

And then remember why it went away in the first place.
TBH, the Mandalorian is just "fine." It's not spectacular and it's not awful. It passes the time. But I think we all could certainly live without it.

Does Disney think that Clone Wars or the Diego Luna show are going to be a huge deal for fans?

The Kenobi thing has me most interested...and hoping they don't make it completely ridiculous.

The Original Trilogy was the Luke Skywalker Story.
The prequels were the Anakin Skywalker Story.
The current trilogy is supposed to somehow tie this all up although it seems somewhat rudderless.
Where does the next movie go? the only character I care about who is still alive is Rey, and she comes across as more of a McGuffin than fully fleshed out character.

Safe to assume the new films will have nothing to do with the skywalker saga....... hopefully. I want some new. Look at the mandolorian. That's a whole new story and its working out great so far!
