Default Diamonds are Forever

For starters, I have no desire to own any of the Bond films with Moore, Dalton or Brosnan. Lets face it - after Thunderball they started to get just plain silly and a far cry from anything that Ian Flemming ever wrote (although On Her Majesty's Secret Service thankfully eschewed anything having to do with outer space). After having been very, very pleased with the BluRay restorations of the first four Connery titles I was looking forward to Diamonds Are Forever (silly or not). What a let-down. I don't think there is a single scene or shot that is any sharper than the DVD. Colors are washed out and (in some cases) faded. I doubt that "they" have done anything to improve the audio. Since it is a Wal-Mart exclusive at $9.96 I guess I shouldn't complain too much, but it makes me wonder what kind of treatment the 10/3 BestBuy exclusives (You Only Live Twice and ONHMSS) have received - and Yes, I'll probably buy those too - with my fingers crossed.

Transfer looked great to me - miles ahead of my old DVD. Not sure what you're seeing...

Also, there's already a massive Bond thread that this should be attached to.

Dalton is the only Bond I'd buy actually. I've seen them all and I like each Bond, but the only ones I'd want on Blu Ray is Dalton's. He is a my favorite.

Yea, I thought the transfer looked fine. I enjoyed it.

I feel like you, in the respect that I'm only interested in the Connerys and Lazenby. I own the complete Ultimate Editions on DVD, which at the time looked amazing to me. I must admit I still haven't seen all of the Roger Moore or even Timothy Dalton ones, but Im just very partial to Connery, Lazenby and Craig.

I'm still not sure if I want to jump on DAF. I'll think it over.

Did watch it in my bedroom last night where I do not have an audio setup. The PQ is great.

Licence to Kill is one of the best Bond films ever made.

Perhaps he needs a seeing eye dog, a pair of sunglasses and a cane.

Looked find to me. The movie, on the other hand, is a bore.

One of the weakest in the series. It's like a Roger Moore Bond starring Sean Connery.

As for the Blu-ray, I watched a little of it last night and it looks good. I just wish the mono track was in lossless since the disc retains the 5.1 remix from the DVD that has brand new sound FX. That has me worried for On Her Majesty's Secret Service which suffered from the same issue(the gunshots at the end sounded completely different in the 5.1 track).

I also feel that the PQ was a major disappointment, especially compared to the other Bonds I have on BD. The Blu-ray.com review was MUCH too lenient. The movie, of course, is a piece of crap anyway...Jill St. John is about 10 years too old to be a Bond girl, and Jimmy Dean is (was) much better at sausages then he is (was) at acting.

You lost me with your very first sentence, where you're critiquing other Bond films... in a thread dedicated to one of the weakest of the entire series. I could definitely pick one or two that are worse... but I'm not sure I could pick three.

(And, yeah, the PQ is pretty solid on this one.)

I hate the movie (way too many plotholes) but the PQ is great.

Maybe I was spoiled by Connery, but after he left, I don't think anybody else filled his shoes. Right now my plan is to buy all of the Connery films, the Lazenby film (more for Diana Rigg than Lazenby) ... and I also want The Spy Who Loved Me and Live and Let Die largely because I like their opening theme songs.

He was a bit wooden in Rebel without a Cause but he was great in Giant.
