MVD Visual has Jack Frost (1997) slated for a Dec 14, 2021 release under the MVD Rewind Collection banner.

Is the Vinegar Syndrome release going out of print? Their site lists over a 1000 copies.

I get MVD rereleasing limited run/OOP VS stuff like Action USA, but this is confusing.

Interesting. Vinegar Syndrome already have a great edition of this, so probably won't double buy. Also it's '97 not '87. Still waiting on the 1998 Keaton version, a horror film in its own right.

I guess they’re also releasing Jack Frost 2, which I guess sorta makes sense that they’d also want to release the first one, but still odd.

Agreed, the cover is beautiful! I might double dip for that reason alone, especially since I was too late to get a slip with my VinSyn copy.

I literally just bought the Blu-ray like three days ago on Ebay for the variant cover as I didn't own, but wanted to get it before the sequel hit. If I knew this was coming I would have waited. Oh well.

Probably won't have a reason to double dip over the VS release. Looking to grab the second film though.

I do like that new cover, but since I got the old slip from facebook I'm probably not gonna double-dip for it. Then again if someone were to offer me $100 or so, I'd sell the old and get the new. Will be interesting to see the specs and how this stacks up to the VS release, which is probably better than the movie deserves.

If it had been tied to James Cameron like the others it probably would have received zero releases.

I called this one last week when Dark Force decided to sell 4 VS titles, and 4 titles only;

Candy Tangerine Man (OOP)
Nurse Sherri (OOP)
Lucifer's Women (OOP)

....and the only other title was Jack Frost. I couldn't figure out why Dark Force would take Jack Frost and nothing else that wasn't OOP, felt random. When I suggested it was going OOP people said no because VS still has over 1000c but it looks like where there's smoke there's fire

The sequel is actually being planned.

VS were talking about repressing slips for people that missed out. Maybe this was the compromise they came up with.

This movie is atrocious even by horror standards and so I just can't justify spending more than $14 on a blu of this. Thanks to VS policy of only having 2 sales per year I still haven't grabbed it as the times I was willing to spend the money on it there were other better titles on sale or there was no sale in question and I'm not about to spend $21+ on this one. With MVD I'm assured a sale at some point that's not solely during the times when everyone else is having a sale and so I have no doubt that I will eventually grab both the original and sequel from them at some point.

Now with that said, hopefully VS holds a fire sale akin to what Scream Factory and Severing have done in the past so I can grab this for a steal.
