Default Why didn't ProDATA catch on?

I was just wondering why ProDATA never catched on considering its similarities to BD.

For those who don't know ProDATA was another product developed by sony which used the same blue-violet laser and could hold 23GBs a layer. It was the same in most aspects exept it nedded a caddy.

ProDATA (as the name suggests) was meant as a data storage solution for professional/industrial use and not for consumers. While it's similar to Blu-ray, it operates at faster transfer rates (1x at 88Mbps vs. 1x at 36Mbps for BD) and had correspondingly higher prices for both drives and blank media making it prohibitively expensive for everyday consumer use.
