I strongly dislike upscaled images, whether it be for games or film/TV. Many Switch games already utilise upscaling algorithms, and TVs also do their own upscaling, and I'd much rather minimise the number of passes that the image goes through in that regard.

I get that from a purist standpoint, im not worried about 4k/HDR fidelity.
But considering the switch is not native 4k, and even using the dock its not a pure 1080p signal for many games. I consider this device to be similar to what darbee has been for movies. Personal experience is what im asking for... thanks though. |

I have one, I used to use it when I had 1080p a monitor and I’m not sure it made much difference. 720p and 1080p integer scale to 2160p, since I’m using a 4K display I just let LG handle the upscaling for all consoles (and mini consoles) with HDMI connections and no 4K option.
If you are connecting classic consoles (240p/480p native output) it might actually be a benefit. |

How is this different than the TV doing the upscaling?

See I don't think it is, lol. Unless your TV is really slow at upscaling.
