What I wouldn't give to be one of those fortunate people who actually got to see the Kazan directed play of A Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando and Jessica Tandy. It would be like seeing an Elvis show before he got famous....

We really need Baby Doll on Blu, seems like a good fit for Kino Lorber or Criterion. Maybe Warner Archive if we're lucky.

I didn’t realize how I’m almost caught up with the Kazan fimms avaliable on Blu. I’m missing “Man on a Tightrope”, “Pinky”, and “A Streetcar Named Desire”. Too bad Kino or Eureka didn’t release Pinky and/or Tightrope outside of the Kazan sets.

Yes, it's a shame. However, it's not impossible that Eureka has them. They did release Tree only last July... Fingers crossed.

Yes. However, I would like The Sea of Grass even more. And of course, Splendor in the Grass. Kino is unlikely for them. But Criterion is possible for Splendor. Sea would probably be WAC if anything.

I think Eureka's Fox deal is done. They haven't released a Fox title since the Fuller at Fox set.

Saw Splendor in the Grass earlier this year for the first time and wasn't impressed so would much prefer Baby Doll to that one. Haven't seen The Sea of Grass, looks interesting though.

I think she would have put in a far better performance than Vivien Leigh. I think Katharine Hepburn's performance in The African Queen and Shelley Winters' performance in A Place in the Sun were much more deserving of an Oscar winner for best actress in 1952.

Totally agree with this. And, watching Brando school his fellow cast mates in Streetcar and then him being the only major actor to walk away empty handed. Unacceptable. I love Bogey. I really do, but that was a gross misjustice.

I managed to obtain both "Kazan at Fox" releases a while ago primarily for "Pinky" and "Man on a Tightrope". I'm surprised nobody has bothered to post screencaps for either despite these sets being nearly ten years old...until now:

I don't own either of the prior DVD releases but I assume "Man on a Tightrope" is most likely the same master that was used for the DVD. "Pinky", however, seemed like it was from a more recent master at that point. It's probably one of the stronger of Kazan's B&W-Fox films.

Thanks for this. Both look very nice actually. I wish I had these sets, but I can't splurge on both OOP sets just for the 2 films I don't have

Enjoy them!
