I wonder what the included "short film" is. My guess would be "Good Morning", from the Ani*Kuri15 anthology.

And before anyone asks, the original digital files probably don't exist anymore. If they did, it wouldn't be marketed as a "4K scan." |

John Ford influence. Christianity/Christmas in a different culture? Sounds new and very interesting to me. Seems like it almost takes off Where Rashomon ended, but set in Tokyo and a different timeline, not a small village. But my mind is different than others. When Tokyo Godfathers scrolls across at the end credit of this trailer I'm like...did he watch Goodfellas? Yes I think he did ![]() ![]() Last edited by KubrickKurasawa; 04-16-2020 at 05:44 AM. |

Goodfellas intro...I like noticing similarities and nods to classics. So the fact that it's JohnFord, Kurosawa, and Scorsese in style or homage or reference has me. That's what I like anyway. Intentional or not I see it all as intentional, but that's what happens when you get into a movie like The Shining when your 13, and get hooked on films.

The biggest reason to own this release is the special features, having the Ohayo short available in HD on disc is great and there’s a short making-of it available too. It also has a variety of vintage featurettes totaling over an hour. Some new content includes a introduction and interview with the English dub actor for Hana, which is neat because they chose a real transwoman to voice her, and while I prefer to watch it dubbed I skimmed thru the new dub and it’s more than decent.
The video transfer looks ok to me. For a 4K remaster the film looks pretty soft but I think it does the animation justice. It’s more “filmic” than the Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress remasters for sure. |
