I have been looking at the release information for Silverado and Master & Commander and noticed that neither mentions a new 4K SCAN. I believe the same was in the Kingdom of Heaven release. Many think KOH was a rework and upscale of the old 2K scan. As good as KOH looks, it does not seem to offer that much more fine detail than the old BR. When I look at the North by Northwest 4K I see not only improved color and dynamic range but a nice increase in fine detail from the new scan. NXNW is a larger VistaVision negative so that may explain part of it. Does reusing a 2K scan also contribute to the lack of increased detail for KOH?
To each their own, but I must say that if Disney/Sony are just reworking old scans and then charging the prices they are it tempers my enthusiasm for the new releases at these prices. |
