The Criterion 4k edition was decent, but flawed( annoying filtering). The Icon 4k had a better transfer, though there were some compression artifacts. The Imprint 4k will probably be the best looking edition, especially with FiM being involved.

Imprint jumping on the doing-better-train (FiM no less!) says a lot! USA's labels getting closed in on!

Best artwork of them all too, with the use of original poster art.

Only partially as of right now. They’re only getting David for select projects. They also announced Midnight Cowboy and In the Heat of the Night at the same time but they’re being encoded by someone else.

Here’s what they wrote me: "We use various authoring houses for our 4K UHD discs. All are of the highest quality, work in Dolby Vision workflows, and author for other boutique labels too."

Sadly that’s not true as their non-FiM 4Ks I’ve tried aren’t as good.

I think I read elsewhere that the UK version uses player-generated subtitles for the film, and the American release uses subtitles that are burnt in on the film. I always prefer the latter and don't have the film, so it will be interesting to see how the Imprint release comes out.

I watched the movie yesterday. Bottom line, the Imprint 4k UHD edition is the best looking version of "Malcolm X" I've seen. It doesn't have the filtering issues of the Criterion edition and it doesn't have the compression issues of the Icon edition. The early scenes of "Malcolm X" with the soft focus, diffused lighting in particular look absolutely gorgeous. The colors really pop and bring out the best in the costumes. Nice compression throughout the movie. If you are a fan of the film, this is the edition to get.

The Imprint 4k UHD has burned in English subtitles( as presented in the theatrical release) during Malcolm X's prayer in the mosque. Great movie and great encoding.
