USA On the Silver Globe 4K UHD (1977/1987) (Mondo Vision)

Mondo Vision will finally be releasing Andrzej Zulawski's On the Silver Globe (Na srebrnym globie) (1977/1987) and it'll now be on 4K UHD! Release date is set for May 31st, and there will be both a Special Edition, and a Limited Edition release. It will also be encoded by Fidelity In Motion. The other two films in Zulawski's Polish trilogy, The Devil (Diabel) (1972), and The Third Part Of The Night (Trzecia Czesc Nocy) (1971) are both currently in production.

13 years in the making! Originally slated for release on DVD & Blu-ray in 2012, delayed time and again due to incomplete source materials, and ultimately left in limbo after the untimely passing of director Andrzej Żuławski in 2016—this long-lost dream was nearly extinguished by time, circumstance, and budgetary reality.

But dreams, especially those born of passion and persistence, do not die so easily.

MONDO VISION is humbled to finally unveil this true labor of love.

For the first time ever, Andrzej Żuławski’s legendary science-fiction epic, Na Srebrnym Globie (On The Silver Globe, 1977/1987), arrives in North America in its first official release, and makes its worldwide debut on 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray.

This stunning 4K restoration, supervised and approved by the film's original cinematographer Andrzej Jaroszewicz, brings the film to life like never before. Uncut. Uncensored. Uncompromised. Presented in its original 1.66:1 aspect ratio and featuring the original Polish Mono DTS-HD Master Audio, this meticulously authored triple-layer UHD disc preserves the haunting textures and raw visual power of one of cinema's most mythic, misunderstood masterpieces.

A forgotten film... reborn.

Hoping the Mono audio is truly mono.

The Eureka UK Blu-Ray stated it was a Mono track but was a Stereo surround track. I was furious. It made for a very frustrating viewing experience so much so I absolutely hated the film. Hoping to give it another chance.

I’m all for more 4Ks of Żuławski‘s films.

Oh yes!!!

"La Note Bleue" is my favorite right after "Possession" and "On the Silver Globe" so that one would be awesome.

Haven't seen "Szamanka" and "La Fidélité" yet because they aren't even on Blu-ray! So those would be in need of a BD or UHD release.

And althogh I am not yet a fan of "Diabel" (The Devil) after my one view, but I would give it another shot if there were a great 4K release.

I sold my Eureka for this exact reason. I have faith in Mondo Vision to deliver the definitive release in this film, however, and I certainly didn't expect them to put out a 4k either.

Instant preorder for me.

Awesome news! "On the Silver Globe" is an amazing movie. Also, David( Fidelity in Motion) encoded all of Mondo Vision's previous releases if memory serves correct so hopefully he is involved with this release.

Is there also a BD coming? If so, guess I will list my Eureka on eBay. The included Eureka booklet is officially OOP too.

He teased that this was on the way several weeks ago on the other Zulawski Polish Trilogy thread.

If there is, it won't be from Mondo, I'm guessing...
Looks like they finally decided to go all in on UHD.

So glad about this. Figured MV was dead as a boutique. As before, picking up both editions. Have since the first. They trickle these out so slow that this series has half the titles on DVD only and a couple on BD. And two of the DVDs ended up on region A BD via other boutiques. One kinda lousy, the other quite good. The good one was a Kino via Studio Canal joint. Wish the DVD ones would see quality upgrades of HD at least…at least the three which don’t have quality BD releases. Or the one that got a German BD of low quality that I read had no English subs and was an upscale.

Other than perhaps not being faithful to the original audio, can you describe what the issue was with the Stereo surround track to make it such a frustrating viewing experience? I own the Eureka Blu-ray and watched the film for the first and only time last year. I don't recall anything problematic with the audio, but then again I'm not familiar with the film beyond that lone viewing.

My issue was it wasn’t a mono track.

I’m very curious where the stereo track originated from, or when was it created.

Very excited for this, been on my watch list for a few years so this should make a good first time viewing. Both options look nice but the big set will be mine. Didn't realize there was an audio issue on the recent UK release so I'm glad I happened to never get it.

No shit! Blind bought it after reading about it thinking it would be forever before it got released here in the States. Less than year later and a 4K to boot. Pricing will be a key element for this purchase as I just watched it recently and will definitely be awhile before I watch it again. Damn great film but also one you have to be in the right mood for.
