United Kingdom The Cannonball Run (Hal Needham, Burt Reynolds, January 2024)

A classic. The HBO US transfer is the best so far and I think it has the correct distributor opening.

This has had at least 2 releases in the UK so not sure what's new this time.

The HBO BD is a waxy mess, the Aussie BDs are compression artifact hell, I have them all. Unless this is remastered in some way with original audio and that sweet Lambo rev sounds...oh wait Mediumrare same old crap

The MediumRare disc uses the HD master from Furtune Star and has a massive red boost. In many shits characters have very red faces and look like they drank too much or made handstands for 30 minutes.

I'm not surprised. It must've been embarrassing filming those.

Furtune Star's transfers are really embarassing especially the Cannonball Run II Australia transfer. Looks slightly better than a bad DVD.

I think the HBO whilst not amazing (it's a decade plus old transfer) at least they done something every other release I've bought is dire.

Lots of money in these films I'd pay top dollar for a 2K remaster. There must be good original elements at least for the 1st film in the US from Fox/Disney.

2nd film I don't know really at least 1 distributor went bankrupt and did Golden Harvest even care?

Crazy situation.

That was probably the reason for Dean Martin’s red face.

Are the sound effects at least the original on the Australian Blus?

And are there any Blu or 4k releases of the original Bandit film that have the original sound effects intact?

I hope you're talking about the film as a whole and not specifically the shits.

The US 40th Anniversary has the original mono track:

But has geometry issues...

Darn, was hoping 88 Films would get these and do them properly. I assume Mediumrare have renewed their licence.
