One of the better comedies that needs a Blu Ray release

I'd love it. It seems like Disney has forgotten its Touchstone/Hollywood releases outside of a handful of releases in 2012.
This and Outrageous Fortune are both must-owns |

"Do I understand this correctly? I'm being marked down?
...............I've been kidnapped by K-Mart!" Would love to see this movie again. Brings back early childhood memories and the first time I discovered Bette Midler is awesome. I remember hearing about how "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" revived her career and she went on to make this and my other favorites of hers "Outrageous Fortune". If this ever gets released, hopefully it will be a decent transfer. Let's hope Criterion picks it up since they just released The Rose. Kidding. I know it won't happen. |

Why this hasn't been released on BD is way beyond my understanding...

I would LOVE to see this movie on bluray. I grew up watching an edited version that our family had taped off of TV. Years later I bought the DVD and was shocked out how much profanity there was in the flick.
This is one of my favourite scenes, where Judge Reinhold gets hit in the face with a coffee mug. And then dabs his face with a chloroform-filled cloth. So funny. |

I know it would never happen, but it'd be fun to see the alternate footage they shot, presumably for TV (like what was done with Ghostbusters). There might've been more but I remember for sure there was alternate footage of:
- Danny DeVito's character Sam talking with Carol in the restaurant at the very beginning of the movie, instead of saying "The old fart hung in there for 15 years" he said something like "The old man hung in there for FIF. TEEN. YEARS." and then scoffed. I like that take way more than what's in the theatrical version. - Judge Reinhold's character instead of saying "F*ckin' finance it!" in the store simply says "Finance it!" |

On the U.S. dvd version, Sam uses the term *ocksucker once or twice. I found this jarring in a comedy and often have misgivings when watching the movie in mixed company. I think the colorful production design and marketing gives the impression of a family comedy not born out in a few instances of racy language. Or maybe the Disney association does that too.
It does have an "R" rating so buyer beware, I suppose. [This blog entry has a downloadable spreadsheet of words and the frequency with which they appear in "R" versus "PG" films.] http://septicscompanion.com/blog/201...m-an-r-rating/ Last edited by chipgallo; 08-15-2019 at 03:29 PM. What about the dustbuster scene? Or the chief 'not killing' the prostitute?
My favourite part was always the police playing tennis in full uniform. When I first got the dvd I ran it along with my tv recording. When Barbara smells the room she says "Peeeeyew" [not sure about spelling], which I always liked. Last edited by figrin_dan; 08-15-2019 at 03:29 PM. |
