Default How does a Blu-ray player handle DVD region codes?

Someone finally asked me a question I do not know the answer to, maybe someone can help me out here. How does a Blu-Ray player hande DVD region codes? Since the region codes for DVD's and BD's are differant I'm not sure how it would handle DVD's from other regions.

A blu-ray player produced for your country would handle dvd region coding the same as a dvd player produced for that same country.

For example, a blu-ray player manufactured for the US would have Region A coding for blu-ray and Region 1 coding for DVD.

However, a blu-ray player manufactured for Japan would have Region A coding for blu-ray (same as US) but Region 2 coding for DVD (different from US).

Here are a few images for your reference:

It's more than likely that it's established all its broadcasting and media in the PAL format. Some of the countries in SA couldn't seem to decide.

That is French Guiana, it is a region of France and actually part of the European Union, so it follows the format of Europe.

I assumed that you would still only be able to view DVD's that are from your region. But because there were differant regions for Blu-Ray I was not sure. Since a Blu-Ray disc from Japan or Korea will work in a US Blu-Ray player being that they are region A, it seams like it would also play DVD's from Japan or Korea even though they are differant regions.
