I liked this movie when I was younger. But I rewatched it recently, and it does not hold up. Unlike Transformers: The Movie, which I love to this day. So I doubt I'll be paying Fathom Event prices to see it in theater.

P.S. The "organic technology" angle of the movie was quite innovative at the time.

Agreed. The intro is epic, but the main story is just meh. Transformers was more solid overall.

Soundtrack, same way. I love the extended theme (both with and without vocals), but that's all its got. Transformers has a loaded music mix.

Pretty cool, considering it was originally made for theatrical release but then got dumped direct-to-video. Would love to see it on the big screen, especially that awesome opening sequence.

I love the movie, not as much as the Transformers animated one. It is a shame these movies did bad and killed the Jem and Holograms animated movie.

I wish it had a original soundtrack like Transformers did. Stock music from the show just made it feel like a extended episode. A really weird extended episode.

Hopefully a 4K release is being worked on, and maybe we'd finally get the 4:3 ratio in HD if they copy how Transformers was handled.

I have to watch this again as I have it on disc, but I remember enjoying it for the most part, and felt it was more true to the heroes of the awesome animated Marvel (different Marvel) Animation 1980s TV series I'm a fan of, than some other series that went to a film but used different voice actors and all new characters.
Marvel Animation back then, also animated the cool Dungeons & Dragons 80s series, and Transformers the series. I love their style of animation.

Watched it again on a 100" screen projector and it holds up well. Interesting to learn of the origins of Cobra and even Cobra Commander.

Best of all, it doesn't quickly dispose of major characters like Transformers the Movie did.

Great job with the music too. No jarring vocal rock songs here, just classic GI Joe soundtracks and the main theme from the classic series to match the film well.

It also hints at GI Joe Series 2, which was entertaining also.

Good animation and sound effects, nice to hear the original series voice actors like Michael Bell too. Sometimes movies replace classic characters with movie star vocals, which is not good. Thankfully not the case here. Burgess Meridith as a star, does a nice job with the new main villain.

For fans of the classic series, this is a good animated film with a lot of action.

Storm Shadow, I don't remember seeing him in this one. Zartan is in it, Destro, a little bit of Snake Eyes, Duke, Hawk, Falcon as a newer character voiced by the Miami Vice guy.

Well originally they were going to kill Duke but changed their minds after the reaction to the Transformers movie.

I never like that Duke "replaced" Hawk, and Falcon was Duke's "replacement". Then there was Flint......WTF?

I went to a Toy Convention in 1981, and Hasbro gave out GI Joe Comic about a year before it and the toys came out. Still have it to this day.

Hawk was the frontman and then when the series came on TV, Duke who looked like Hawk, was the frontman.
Hawk was bumped up to a desk job. Never liked that shit.

Start at 44:00....good stuff from Hama.

Mark this as another terrible Fathom Events screening. It looked like they were streaming a 4X3 standard edition of the film. They advertised the Blu-ray during the preshow and obviously used scenes from it in their trailers. Why couldn’t have that been used instead?
