Default Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie (May 12th 2023)

Quote:
Michael J. Fox is going back to his past and rewriting his future. Still premieres May 12 on Apple TV+

The film, which will incorporate documentary, archival and scripted elements, will recount Fox’s extraordinary story in his own words — the improbable tale of an undersized kid from a Canadian army base who rose to the heights of stardom in 1980s Hollywood. The account of Fox’s public life, full of nostalgic thrills and cinematic gloss, will unspool alongside his never-before-seen private journey, including the years that followed his diagnosis, at 29, with Parkinson’s disease. Intimate and honest, and produced with unprecedented access to Fox and his family, the film will chronicle Fox’s personal and professional triumphs and travails and will explore what happens when an incurable optimist confronts an incurable disease. With a mix of adventure and romance, comedy and drama, watching the film will feel like … well, like a Michael J. Fox movie.

I've been a fan of Michael's since I first saw Family Ties as a kid, so this sounds right up my alley. I just hope they put it somewhere besides Apple+, because I'm so sick of otherwise great movies getting placed on restrictive subscription platforms.

I too hope this goes somewhere other than Apple. Hulu and Netflix should get a shot with it

He was good as Alex Keaton on Family Ties with his sister, Mallory.
Great in Back to the Future.
Teen Wolf I thought was generally good.
The Frighteners is much better on a second viewing.
Atlantis 2001 was interesting as an animated voice over role.

I actually haven't seen most of his movies.

I agree, being restricted to Apple- is not going to get me to subscribe. Expand these restricted films out to a global digital format so everyone can watch them without needing to pay subscribe monthly.

A universal-platform digital rental or digital purchase please if they refuse to offer it on disc.

Uhm, there's a trailer and release date already. It's going to Apple.

I know but like Moviefan2k4 said why limit this to a streaming service barley anyone has compared to the heavy hitters like Hulu and Netflix

He played a memorable role as Michael Douglas' assistant "Lewis Rothschild" in The American President, a character rumored to be based on real-life political pundit George Stephanopoulos. It gave him some room to mix drama with comedy, which he hadn't done a lot of up to that point in his career. That movie also paired him and Douglas with some other heavy-hitters, like Martin Sheen, Annette Bening, and the late John Mahoney.

Thanks for the details. Sounds like a good cast of actors.

I like The Secret of My Success.

There isn't a comedic actor today that make me want to watch a film because he or her is in it.

I swear, comedic actors today work backwards. Most are annoying and they expect me to like them because they are annoying.

I agree. BTTF is one of my favorite franchises ever and Michael is a key reason. Great guy in real life too!

Also agree about having this on stupid Apple TV. Ugh. I tried that service out for like a few weeks. My main interest was the Foundations TV show but that ended up sucking. I’d scroll through day after day and just never found anything I could get into. Quality was great, meaning the video quality. Still, I’m long done subscribing to things for one thing. If it’s good it’ll find its way onto other platforms or even a disc.

I've always liked The Hard Way.

Great team up of James Woods and Fox.

I'm not a fan of the film but a lot of people are, Casualties Of War. Showed the more serious side of Fox.

Actually since it's a De Palma film I should give it a rewatch. It was intense as i remember.

I like The Secret of My Success but his best non BTTF movie is Doc Hollywood.

I liked Michael in BTTF 1, 2 and 3, Teen Wolf, Secret of my Success and Mars Attacks. The Frighteners was decent too.

Really enjoyed this. But holy shit it was heartbreaking watching him try to do normal things like walk and brush his teeth. Any time he stumbled my heart skipped a beat.

He calls himself a tough son of a ***** in the beginning, and seeing that he can be so positive and upbeat while being in nonstop pain shows that he really is.

His family is adorable as hell too.

He's been dealing with Parkinson's for more than half his life now, and that's bound to take a toll on anyone, famous or not. He underwent a risky brain surgery several years ago to minimize the effects, but it was a "one and done only" operation.

Apple+ should have had a weekend sale on all Michael J. Fox titles because I was ready to purchase pretty much anything of his (that I don't already own) while I was watching Still. I thought the scenes from Family Ties, Spin City, and several of his lesser-known films looked fantastic in Dolby Vision and I liked how they incorporated those past works into the narrative.
