Fantastic news. One of my favorites. Several peak-era Cronenberg horrors seriously need new 4k restorations, as some were poorly handled on blu. Hopefully we see a 4K release for Shivers on this side side of the pond as well, and more of his peak back-catalog to come soon behind.

One of my 3 favorite Cronenbergs. Does NSM Records have an established track record re: UHD?

The only UHDs I’m really aware of from them are Halloween series.

I thought only film prints survive for Shivers?

The currently available restoration was completed from an internegative or interpositive iirc. You're thinking of the movie in its uncut form that only exists as a print; the best source has 5 seconds missing from it. Those 5 seconds were taken from the uncut print and matched.

Either they found the negative or the restoration is being done again at 4k which would look better even-so. I'm waiting on the eventual Arrow release for this one though.

I believe it was restored around the same time as the master of Rabid that Arrow used for their Blu-ray. I think both were from prints as they look like they were and Shivers has cue marks too (I know that cue marks can still appear on INs and even IPs but still). I thought at the time that prints must have been the best-surviving elements for both films but SF didn't seem to have a problem finding the negative for Rabid not too long after Arrow's release.

The old DVD for Shivers looks like it utilized a higher quality source than a print so hopefully it survived and the negative or another pre-print element has been located for this new UHD. I haven't heard that the negative for Shivers has been lost or is too damaged to restore so it's possible that TIFF just figured that restoring a print was good enough for their purposes.

Yeah, the Arrow releases of Shivers and Rabid, er, leave something to be desired. I've technically got three copies of the former knocking around because Arrow sent me the replacement discs twice.

It's one of my favourite Cronenberg films. The wife really liked it when she watched it for the first time about 2 years ago.

Who isn't salivating at the prospect of carpet-covered toilet seats in HD??

I don’t think it’s all that bad, but I think I prefer the Arrow* UK version * I believe this one had disc replacements - it’s my go to.

I figure other labels will get around to a 4K at some point. I’d prob wait it out at this point for an eventual UK 4K

It has never been for sale at DTM. There appears to be a listing for it at dvdparadies.at, though.

Did anyone order from wicked-shop? Was cover C available there?
