Sonic star Ben Schwartz says in a Variety interview that "we're getting closer" to a Super Smash Bros movie, but expects difficult deal-making issues due to the various studios that would be involved:

A Super Smash Bros movie would make over 2 billion dollars and I’m not at all exaggerating. Whether or not such a thing is possible with all the various rights issues involved, who knows?

I don't see this happening at all. Studios are greedier and are more selfish than ever.

SSB is just a mashup of every Nintendo character fighting each other. Are they trying for a CA:CW-type storyline? That's gonna be tough to sell.
