Let's hope it's a concert movie a la "Journey of Man", as their one attempt at narrative, "Alegria: the Movie", was an unholy mess.

And with "big name talent" like the Camster doing the x-producing (and no doubt "thrilled to be working with them"...), I sort of have an idea what to expect.
(And can't Adamson be "the director of Chronicles of Narnia" for once? Give the guy a break, he's trying to escape his past!)

Well, at least we can expect the 3D to be good

I'm interested in it tbh. Looks like it will be worth a watch.

I - LOVED - IT!!!!!!!!! I want to see it again! And I will...going back two or three times next week.

Yes, I have seen mediocre reviews, but there are couple of requirements to enjoying this movie:

1. You have to LOVE Cirque Du Soleil. Not just "like"...you have to love them.

2. Don't spend even one second trying to analyse the plot. It's about a young woman who is mesmerized with a young male aerialist and she tries to find him again when they are separated. Everything else are sections of different Las Vegas Cirque shows and even in their entirety don't always make sense. If you try to understand why this is here or that is there, you will run out screaming.

3. It helps a lot to have seen at least a few of these shows in Las Vegas because the movie selects some of the best parts from each.

4. Did I mention you have to LOVE Cirque du Soleil?

I think one or two people did walk out but those who stayed applauded and stayed all the way through the end credits (which were very lengthy because they listed each LV show, each hotel, and each person on the crew of the individual productions).

The film did present some of the best moments from each show, and getting close added to it, giving us devotees a new look at it. And with the battle scene on the rotating steel plate from "Ka", a look from different angles was a blessing.

My favorite Cirque show in Vegas is "The Beatles' Love" and other fans of that production will be very happy. There are about six scenes from it (with Beatles music in the film, too), including "Get Back," "Octopus's Garden," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," and the film ends with a group shot of curtain moments for the different show casts set to "All You Need Is Love."

Cinematography is excellent. And the 3D is spectacular!

Is it just a huge commercial for Cirque du Soleil's Las Vegas shows? Yes. Do I recommend it? Yes! Yes! YES!!!!

Good to hear. I dont understand the negative reviews that say the story is weak. Its Cirque Du Soleil... the story is only 3% of the event. Its all about the music and SPECTACLE.

My favorite is Alegria.

Great review. Just saw this today with my parents and other family members, who are pretty big Cirque fans. We've only seen La Noumba in Orlando (several times), and was a little disappointed that they didn't include any parts from that show in this movie.

But we really enjoyed it. I agree with you needing to LOVE Cirque. There was one person who walked out. There was no applause, which was a little bit of a let down, but it was fantastic.

Oh, and the rotating "peg floor" scene was absolutely incredible. How do they even practice this stuff without getting seriously injured!

The movie was meant to highlight only the seven shows in Las Vegas.

However, La Nouba is available on DVD:

So are most all the other touring non-Vegas shows (Quidam, Alegria, Dralion, Varekai), all on DVD, except for "Corteo" on Blu-ray.
La Nouba has the best music, though, although Dralion has the better acts.

I've never seen a Cirque show and want to see the movie. It looks neat. I was impressed with their performance at the Oscars. But if I'm not really familiar with the show does that mean I won't enjoy the movie?

Going into it, I was un-aware that it was highlights of only the LV shows. Thanks for that link! I forgot that La Nouba was on DVD!! Thinking about this last night, again I am amazed at that rotating floor scene. Still amazing.

Not necessarily. Just go in knowing that you aren't seeing a linear movie-going experience. There is hardly any dialogue at all, and the story is a little muddy... but you are going to see incredible acts set to gorgeous music with amazing cinematography and some of the best 3D since Avatar!

What, THAT Oscars? Eh, it was okay.

Nothing compared to their '02 "Special effects" Oscars appearance, though (which was mostly Nouba and Dralion highlights):

Well that doesn't bother me. I knew not to expect much in the way of a story.

Not even close. Avatar's 3D was game-changing. The 3D in Worlds Away was fine, but it doesn't begin to approach (let alone out-do) Avatar.
Listen, I know Avatar is the be-all and end-all for some people when it comes to 3D, but I disagree completely. I've seen Avatar in the theater in 3D and I have the 3D Blu-ray. Both times I kept hoping for something really impressive in 3D but even seeing it both ways, I remained very unimpressed (others feel that way, too). With Cirque Worlds Away, I was really knocked out. There was a lot of depth and often found the ground coming right out of the screen.

As far as story goes, one never goes to see any Cirque show thinking there is anything but the slightest amount of a story.

As I said in my review, to really enjoy the movie, you have to LOVE Cirque du Soleil beforeheand. Not just "like". Love!!!

That's what makes Worlds Away special. It's the only one that has scenes from the Las Vegas shows (except for some "making of" DVDs). And in 3D! I hope it comes out on Blu 3D soon!!!!

There was only one regret I had in Worlds Away and it is that the section they used from Zumanity, the woman swimming in the waterbowl, was that in the original production there are two women, and it is more beautiful, more dangerous, and - taking into account that the tagline for Zumanity is "The sensual side of Cirque du Soleil" - much more hot. I would post the clip but think it better you look it up on YouTube.com.

No one is familiar with World's Away story because the only story, as I mentioned in my review, is that a young woman falls in love with a circus aerialist and tries to find him again. That's it. It is the skeleton of the film and the different scenes in which the individual watch or interact with are from seven different Cirque Las Vegas shows. As a matter of fact, the young woman walks around a dreamworld sandy area and goes into different circus tents where the scenes take place (think of the desert as the Nevada desert and the tents as the different theaters where the Cirque shows take place).

When you see the film, turn off your mind and just open your eyes to the spectacle.

By the way, I liked the Oscars performance, too. It was different in some ways from the show it is pulled from, Iris. On the Oscars, they showed a number of film clips from famous movies. Not so with the stage show of Iris, which takes place in that theater. But there are still good parts to recommend. I have seen it twice and at the end when you see those aerialists twirl away from their trapezes and bounce around way up there on their straps, it is breathtaking. Iris ends in January and I hope I can go to see it again before they leave.

Great Danny Elfman score.

But, to me, the best show ever for Cirque, acts and musics (especially the music) is "The Beatles' Love". I've seen it three times already and hope to see it every time I am in LV. The music is so important that the back of EVERY seat in the theaters has three speakers built into it. Along with the regular ones, there are over 6,100 speakers in the theater!
