‘Wakanda Forever’s Mabel Cadena Boards Underwater Heist Series for Netflix

It looks like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Mabel Cadena is headed back to the water. Cadena is part of the ensemble cast of Bandidos , an upcoming Spanish-language Netflix series about an underwater heist in the Gulf of Mexico.

Directed by Adrian Grunberg (Rambo: Last Blood), Bandidos tells the story of a group of bandits who are looking to retrieve an underwater treasure from a Spanish ship that dates to the Mexican War of Independence. The bandidos, however, are not the only treasure hunters who want the booty.

Along with Cadena, the series will also feature Alfonso Dosal, Ester Expósito, Juan Pablo Medina, Nicolás Furtado, Andrés Baida, Andrea Chaparro, Juan Pablo Fuentes, and Bruno Bichir.

“Appreciation post: BANDIDOS. Filming has begun!” Cadena posted on social media alongside a photo of the film’s clapperboard. “Coming soon by Netflix Latinoamérica [and] Netflix México. What a pleasure to share this journey with you. They make a wonderful team! Here’s to even more spectacular days ahead.”

According to Deadline, the series will feature a “massive underwater heist.” A body of water should make for a familiar setting for Cadena. Last year, she starred as Namora, the cousin of the film’s main antihero Namor (Tenoch Huerta), the leader of an underwater civilization.

“I feel very excited about my future,” Mabel Cadena told Remezcla last year. “It’s about my future and about the generations to come.”

Bandidos is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2024. Deadline reports that it will be the biggest Netflix series to come out of Mexico since Narcos: Mexico, which ran for three seasons until it wrapped in 2021.
