Interesting...
Old Nvidia gaming GPUs enjoy huge performance uplifts from new mod — DLSS 3 to FSR 3 mod enables frame generation to deliver up to 75% better performance on previous GeForce RTX GPUs Quote:
And it also makes me wonder how much more clout there is with the conspiracy theories around Nvidia's practices by limiting new features to newer GPUs only, as a strategy to entice people into incremental upgrades. Up to this point it was my understanding that DLSS3 wasn't backward compatible and required "Optical Flow Accelerator", which is not included on RTX 30 or RTX 20 series cards. And yet now there's apparently a softmod for Frame Generation. |

Another case where modders help the whole community.
As it only works with DLSS3 titles some older titles won't get the upgrade for now. Hopefully they will be able to implement it in older but still hard to run games. A nice addition where the creators of the game only implement DLSS3 because reasons. Still not as good as native implementation of FSR3 but that's to be expected with tacked on implementation. IMO at least some of it is marketing to drive more sales of GPUs. As AMD proved with FSR3 you can use Frame Generation without the need for "Optical Flow Accelerators". It could be the case that DLSS3 would work on 3070 but ran awfully as DLSS3 relies on hardware and the newer generation of Tensor cores are more powerful than those on the 30-cards. |
