Sony Pictures Take Shelter (2011)

I didn't see a thread for this, so I figured I would start one.

I recently saw this film and thought it was phenomenal. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain both give outstanding performances. It's really a shame that Shannon didn't get a nomination for this role. I really can't say enough about the work he did in this film.

For fear of ruining the story for anyone, I'm going to refrain from giving a synopsis.

However, I will say it's a wholly unique film with some outstanding and unsettling visual effects, top tier performances, a beautiful and unnerving musical score, and a story line that will give you goosebumps, yet move you at the same time.

Truly haunting film. This and Drive are neck-and-neck for my personal favorite film of 2011.

I've already pre-ordered this and truly can't wait to experience it again.

I'm definitely interested. I don't know much about the film but Michael Shannon is enough for me.

I love Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain has basically become my favorite actress over the past year. Will likely blind buy this.

I don't watch trailers for movies I'm interested in.

Trailers stink and they reveal too much. Plus I like to know as little as possible other than a very general synopsis. It makes the experience 'that' much better IMO.

Ha! Well you're the first. I can sense the awkward stares on the other side of the monitors whenever I mention my weird stigma with trailers.

Anyone who likes/is interested in this owes it to themselves to check out the director's debut Shotgun Stories, also starring Michael Shannon. Unfortunately the DVD recently went OOP and is only available for absurd prices, so I'm crossing my fingers for a BD release. The director Jeff Nichols is the brother of Ben Nichols from Lucero, by the way. If memory serves Ben penned a couple original tunes for SG, and has a small role in both films.

I wasn't a fan of Shotgun Stories, but after seeing the masterpiece Take Shelter, I'm willing to give it another go.

It's odd that this releases in about two weeks and we still don't have any cover art for the Blu-Ray version.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. I hope Sony doesn't/didn't cancel it without any notice.

Nothing happens? Haha, well, I shouldn't be surprised, considering you can't even spell.

LOVED this but wasn't that big a fan of Shotgun Stories. Shannon did a great job as always, but Take Shelter was a far superior film. God damn, I can't wait to own it to watch it again.

Missed this and Melancholia at the theaters and hope to see it finally in a couple of weeks. The trailer looks intriguing.
