I'm surprised this didn't have it's own thread.
Anyway, reviews are coming out and it's currently sitting at 75/100 on Metacritic. I'm a little surprised at that score, as Mario Golf games typically review very well. Looks like another mid-quality "filler" game by Nintendo in the same vein as Mario Tennis Aces, Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi's Crafted World, Super Mario Party, etc. |

Disappointed by the reviews and by the price point. Refuse to pay $60 for this. So ill play it in 2030 when it finally goes on sale lol

Seriously, more people need to call Nintendo out for this shit. I'm tired of them trying to pass off glorified indie games as full priced AAA games. I dont care if it does star Mario. Games like this are 40.00 games, tops.

Sort of like Cadence of Hyrule retailing for $25 when it’s a skin of an $8 indie game?

I don't have to. I already know what this is. I've watched enough footage of it and I've played enough of these mid-tier Nintendo games this generation to recognize this falls right in line with the rest of them. This is a mid-budget, quick turnaround Nintendo game they're trying to pass off as big budget AAA so they can charge full price. They've been doing this all generation and many Nintendo loyalists just lap it up, never demanding better, never refusing to pay these ridiculous prices. To each their own I guess. However I refuse to be under the "Nintendo charm spell" that so many others are. When Nintendo is on, their games are absolute fire and hard to top. However I'm going to continue to be bullish and call them out when I see bullshit and that's what I see with games like this at 60.00.

Yep. I don't buy those either. Just like I don't buy COD games, Assassins Creed games, or any other games that are a part of an annualized franchise.

I really enjoyed the early Assassin’s Creed games but haven’t played one since 2015. |

So I spent a few hours on this.
I dig it. Very simple and fun. I loved the 64 version so this gives me all the feels. I imagine it’s better with friends using motion controls. I will give it a solid 7-10 as a party game. Definitely not worth the $60 unless going in with a few friends to share. 6 total courses at the moment. Lots of characters tho and they each feel unique and have different abilities. Have a great weekend everyone! |

I dig it too-- but this game is more like traditional golf with Mario elements. It's not as wacky. Some ppl say the courses are boring, but I don't think that's accurate. They are laid out so that skillful play is rewarded...like curve shots, wind and slope assessment etc...and that would all be great...if not for the gimped golfing mechanics.
For example-- get stuck up against a wall or bunker? Too bad, there is no lob shot like irl golf. Can't pop a ball up over a hill, too bad. Are you aiming at a tree, wall or obstacle? You won't know it, because the aiming indicator is non existent. Wind mixed with elevations makes zero sense when aiming for the flag. Playing online, need to quit? Too bad, now you can't play online again until your penalty for quiting is served. It's these omissions, mixed with the more realistic approach to golf that makes it frustrating. If you're going for real life golf sim mechanics and physics, then for f sake-- put in all the golf manoeuvres like lob shots! Jeez... This game is so close to a birdie... But scores a bogey for now. Let's hope FREE DLC will fix it. |

Played the two new courses. They're fun, I guess. Wish they weren't all 3-Par but oh well. I guess I'm glad that Nintendo actually did something, as the game was not very good at the launch. It was actually pretty rough. Could've been a lot better. And there are still issues. Like, why the hell can't you angle a shot like previous Mario Golf games???????? Why the hell didn't they implement that?
