I am starting to be on the lookout for a good monitor to play gaming systems on in the new year. First and foremost: would it be pointless to ask about monitors that will handle the "still-unknown-specs" of the forthcoming PS5 Pro?
I currently have a PS4 Pro. I am looking into new systems in the new year, and I understand Nintendo is coming out with a new "beefed-up" version of Switch later this year? I love FPS games, including ones where I can just blow up lots of stuff (a la Battlefield franchise-type FPS's) and, of course, spill some blood ![]() I could go up to $1K in budget, but I'm sure there are lots of much less expensive yet very capable monitors out there. Thx....... |

The new LG UltraGear OLED Gaming Monitor (32GS95UE) looks pretty awesome:
https://www.lgnewsroom.com/2023/12/l...al-hz-feature/ Just about any monitor will be fine, as long as it supports: - 4K (3,840 x 2,160) as the native panel resolution (no upscaling) - at least a 120Hz refresh rate - at least one HDMI 2.1 port 1440p (2,560 x 1,440) is also great option for a 27" model, but I'd stay away from ultra-widescreen (21:9) unless you are also connecting a gaming PC. What size monitor can your setup support? I wouldn't go over 32" if you are less than 1 arms length from the display, that way you can see the entire screen without moving your head; you can use a monitor arm or wall mount if you need to create a bit of space between you and your display. If you have more space between you and the monitor, you might want to consider a TV. There are debates for IPS vs VA for your panel, I don't think there is any debate that OLED is the current best you can get. Sure, someone will fret over image retention, but that has basically been solved with modern OLEDs so don't let the nay-sayers scare you away from the best because something might happen. If it is in your budget, get an OLED. |

If you're OK with a 27" monitor, there are some good choices that's way cheaper than $1000. For example Samsung Odyssey G7(QHD resolution, a 240Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time) or Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM(FHD resolution, a 280Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time)
