USA La Chimera (2023) Blu-ray (NEON)

NEON (via Decal) will be releasing the 2023 Italian period film La Chimera on June 4th. Sadly, it looks to be another BD-R from them.

Quote:
Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to achieve but never manage to find. For the band of tombaroli, thieves of ancient grave goods and archaeological wonders, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, goes inside the earth - in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak.

In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.

Actually kinda shocked it's not going straight to Criterion, but either way it's a definite buy for me

Do Decal have a history of releasing films on BD-R?

Eileen at least was one, probably more of their less-successful flicks--but at least they're not DVD-only like Sanctuary

It Lives Inside and Waitress: The Musical are two others, though the latter apparently has pressed copies out there too. As eight says above, they've done DVD only releases too, for stuff that absolutely should have gotten a BD, including How To Blow Up a Pipeline, and The Quiet Girl among others.

BD-R? That’s a load of disappointment. Hopefully someone releases it somewhere on Blu with English subtitles.

This would have been an easy purchase if only it weren't a BD-R.

Has anyone picked this up? I'm really curious about how it looks. 4K would've been nice but hey.

Doesn’t make up for most of their releases being shitty or BD-R/DVD only. Plus that already had a great Arrow disc.

I can recommend the UK Curzon BD of the film. Encoding is very good and likely much better than Decal/Neon.

Hello guys, I am new here. I watched this in cinema and I want to get a disc. What's wrong with BD-R? Why everyone is disliking it?

It's a burned disc and therefore cheap since these are not factory-pressed discs. Burned discs are also of much worse quality and prone to faster decay.
