Default The Big Heat (1953) (Encore Edition) (Limited Edition to 3,000)

PRE-ORDER http://www1.screenarchives.com/title...NCORE-EDITION/

Re-release date: February 9, 2016

Quote:
“Fritz Lang’s greatest masterpiece of film noir…as deceptive and two-faced as anything Lang ever made, with its sunny domestic tranquility precariously separated from a world of violence.” – Roger Ebert

“Mr. Lang can direct a film. He has brought forth a hot one with a sting."
– The New York Times

“A narrative drive as efficient and powerful as a handgun.”
– Time Out Film Guide

A dark masterpiece of film noir, pantheon director Fritz Lang’s excoriating The Big Heat (1953) takes an unflinching look at the endemic corruption of small-town America, pitting a tough cop (Glenn Ford) against the forces of evil represented by a syndicate boss (Alexander Scourby) and his all-too-obedient flunkies within the police force. Gloria Grahame co-stars, indelibly, as a gangster’s moll with a decent heart, exploited by both good guys and bad; and Lee Marvin makes a terrifying early appearance as a thug whose sharp clothes and fancy apartment do little to conceal his animalistic nature.

Limited Edition of 3,000 Units

LANGUAGE: English
VIDEO: 1080p High Definition / 1.33:1
AUDIO: English 1.0 DTS-HD MA
SUBTITLES: English SDH
1953 / B&W

The Big Heat Blu-ray Review

Unarguably, one of the best noirs of all time, will see lights of day on Blu on May 8th,courtesy of Twilight Time.Pre-order date is April 13th.

Quote:
Dave Bannion is an upright but unscrupulous cop on the trail of a vicious gang he suspects holds power over the police force. Bannion is tipped off after a colleague's suicide and his fellow officers' suspicious silence lead him to believe that they are on the gangsters' payroll. When a bomb meant for him kills his wife instead, Bannion becomes a furious force of vengeance and justice, aided along the way by the gangster's spurned girlfriend Debbie. As Bannion and Debbie fall further and further into the Gangland's insidious and brutal trap, they must use any means necessary (including murder) to get to the truth.

Journey to the Center of the Earth and now this, I think Twilight Time is trying to make me eat Ramen breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is going to be another blind-buy for me as well. Great looking cover ...

That cover for The Big Heat is tight. I truly cannot wait for this.

I hope TT could obtain the rights to Man Hunt which is probably my favorite of all of Lang's films.

Potentially, there's more good news for you (us too). From FB:
Prior to their reply - some dude confused 'The Big Heat' with some other Lang's title.Their response was -quote : "Maybe Man Hunt (1941), which is Fox and we'd also like to release!"
Of course,we shouldn't take this for granted,but sound promising,alright

Hopefully,'The Big Heat' will do well,so they can bring some other great noirs to the table (The Lady from Shanghai,Gilda,Kiss of Death,Nightmare Alley, etc)

Gloria Grahame is so beautiful in this. One of the best Film Noir titles ever, this will go nicely with my BD of Scarlet Street (Kino) and films from Criterion (Kiss Me Deadly, The Killing, Sweet Smell of Success, and The Third Man)

Hopefully we get Odd Man Out (1947) from the big C sometime this year.

More Film Noir on Blu-ray disc please.

This will be my second certain Twilight Time pre-order.

And that cover is an eye-catcher - which is certainly what I want a cover to be.

I know some bemoan how much chatter there is about packaging, etc., and there is indeed in some a protracted concern on that front. I do realize it's the film that's of utmost importance. But I am one who does really appreciate an attractively designed cover. Many, many times I've perused films - and books and music - and stopped on a title I knew little or nothing about due to its cover design, then looked it up later. TT's design for The Big Heat would've been one of those for me, if I didn't know anything of it before.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is the only way to order these Twilight Time titles through Screen Archives? The price seems a little steep...
