I'm not even sure if Uni & Para going blu exclusive can top this week. This week is truly a disaster for HD DVD!! Who would have thought that Netflix & Walmart would go Blu all in the same week!? Walmart is far and away a bigger blow to HD DVD than Uni & Para leaving, at least in my opinion.

This week was meaningless. HD-DVD has been dead since the Warner's announcement. It's only a question of when the life-support system plug is pulled.

Amazing, when you think about it. When the Warner announcement was made before CES, prevailing wisdom was that it would take many months before it really makes the killing effect on HD-DUD.

It's only been over a month and a half and things have moved rapidly. I'd be shocked if this truly isn't over (i.e. Toshiba admits defeat) before March.

Default Anybody Else

There is still a few hours left in the business week. Anybody else ready to come over to the Blu side. Circuit City, Paramount, Universal, Toshiba, Bueller? Come on you know you want to!

Bad week for HD DVD?

Tosh: "You three are staying loyal to us, right?"

Paramount/Dream: "Oh yes. Definitely!" (While quietly rumaging through their warehouses for unreleased Blu-ray titles to sell.)

Universal: "Definitely. We're still behind HD DVD 110%!" (While quietly pressing new Blu-ray titles in their new Blu-ray manufacturing facilities.)

Uni/Para/Dream: "What about you? You holding up OK, Toshiba?"

Tosh: "Great! Couldn't be better!" (While trying to cover up plans for new Blu-ray players on the desk in front of them.)

That is true, but this week is not meaningless since it will most likely serve to speed up the time-frame of Tosh, Para, and Uni pulling the plug. Bill Hunt said that word was Para was going to announce a return to BD either in late March or early April, and these events may move up that timetable, along w/ the cat-out-of-the-bag report of Tosh dropping HD DVD.

Not a lot of places to go after WalMart drops you. Big lots, followed by Ebay and flea markets.
