Amazon.ca, but it appears to have been a VERY limited run and is already OOP after only 5 months.

If you're going by the fact Amazon.ca no longer stocks it it's not much of a barometer; unlike Amazon US they seem to constantly quit carrying stuff that is still in print.

OP - new copies are on ebay

I got my copy, plus Exotica from playstop.ca

They had the cheapest price at the time, and if I remember they either had free shipping or definitely cheaper than amazon.ca

Finally got around to ordering this. Looking forward to revisiting this movie- have not seen it since it's initial release.

Is there any difference between the New Line disc and the Artificial Eye disc?

Good question. I'm hoping they're the same discs.

The region B Artificial Eye release doesn’t have any extras aside from the inclusion of a short film (not about The Sweet Hereafter). The film itself is at a lower bit rate but looks comparable to the region A One from New Line.

Thanks for that. In the case of EXOTICA it seems like there's a legit reason to favor the Alliance release over the one from Artificial Eye.

The commentaries are reason enough to get the Alliance disc. The original 1998 commentary is great enough, but the new one is also amazing, because Egoyan reveals that parts of the film were inspired by a friend of his, and he waited until she had passed away to ever discuss it, on that commentary, for the first time.

Had this briefly.

Great movie, one I would love to have in my permanent collection, but I couldn't stomach the T&O push on the Bd. The teal especially was obnoxious.

Sold it off almost immediately.

The Canadian release? Could you please elaborate a bit? Thanks.

That’s just Canadian sunlight. It is very blue up there.

Nah, it is true, only the DVD had a neutral tone - the whole film got shifted more blue for the Blurays. But it isnt as if there is any other option.

Yeah it was the Canadian release. You can see it in the screencaps on the DVD beaver comparison here.

There are no longer any neutrals. Everything grey skews to the same shade of blue/green.
Even blues before that might have been leaning towards violet or more neutral like denim are yanked toward green now.

I found it very distracting and couldn't finish watching it. I never saw the film theatrically, but the original DVD release looked "natural".
This was too heavily artificially sweetened for my taste.

YMMV.

This magnificent film needs a definitive re-release. I know it's on the Criterion Channel but this is a film I desperately want in my collection. It's my favorite Ian Holm film.

I wouldn't call it definitive, but if you're region free, Artificial Eye just did a re-release of the Atom Egoyan Collection. I have the original release and the stand-alone Alliance, so my hope is for a new 4K release.

Yeah I've been eyeing that collection for some time but have been a bit hesitant on buying it cause I'm afraid as soon as I pick it up, Criterion will all the sudden make an announcement for an Atom Egoyan Collection. I'll probably wait it out a few months and see what happens, although I might finally get impatient and grab the Artificial Eye set.

I would have to double dip if that happened!

It was his first leading role, and I would argue, his greatest. Donald Sutherland was originally cast and dropped out before filming.
