Default Franz Ferdinand - The Human Fear

Well the first album of 2025 for me is a winner. I was a big fan of the first couple albums Franz Ferdinand put out back in the day. For some reason I didn’t keep up with them. After listening to this album I’m going to have to go back check out the albums I missed. This new album was a very enjoyable breezy 11 track 35 minute album. It’s very catchy and replayable.

Favorite Tracks: Bar Lonely, Hooked, Black Eyelashes

Default Teddy Swims - I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2)

Teddy Swims avoided the sophomore slump and knocked it out of the park with this album. He has such an incredibly soulful beautiful voice. Love the production. So many great songs. Been listening to this constantly since it came out.

Favorite Tracks: Not Your Man, Funeral, Bad Dreams, It Ain't Easy, If You Ever Change Your Mind, She Got It (feat. Coco Jones & GloRilla), Hammer to the Heart

Default The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow

Closing out his synth wave-inspired trilogy in an ambitious fashion and accompanying a feature film with the same title that will release on May 16th, you have to give Abel credit for continuing to challenge himself. The Weeknd is one of the biggest artists in the world, but I never really got into his music until the first album of this trilogy, After Hours (2020). That’s when his music finally clicked with me. The second album Dawn FM (2022) was incredible. It’s still my favorite of the trilogy, and it was my album of the year for 2022.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is my least favorite of the trilogy, but it's still a solid album with great production. Length is the main issue. It is the longest of the trilogy, being 1 hour and 22 minutes. I really feel it should’ve been cut down to about an hour. The first half is very strong though, filled with great catchy tracks that seamlessly flow into the next track. I feel that Abel's writing has continually strengthened, as well as the song structures. It was a good cap to the trilogy, and I'm very much looking forward to the film.

Favorite Tracks: Wake Me Up (feat. Justice), Cry for Me, São Paulo (with Anitta), Baptized In Fear, Open Hearts, Given Up on Me, Timeless (with Playboi Carti), Take Me Back to LA, Without a Warning

The Velveteers - A Million Knives

I didn’t get into their first album much, but this one doesn’t have a bad song.

Good stuff.

The Darkness - Dreams on Toast

This band has never put out a bad album. This one is a little more poppy and that’s not a bad thing.

Default Turnstile - NEVER ENOUGH

It's always fun discovering a new band. What struck me about Turnstile almost immediately was how much they reminded me of Jane's Addiction. There's an infectious energy that really clicked with me. The production sounds great, and the songs are quite catchy. This album apparently marks a big change in sound for the band, from hardcore punk to alternative rock. I really hope they continue in this direction because this was a great album.

Favorite Tracks - Never Enough, Sole, I Care, Light Design, Look Out For Me, Slowdive

I'm not sure how many 2025 albums i've listened to (not many) but i know this one blew me away. A great heavy psych rock album.
