Default suggestion for the audio forum.

how about a comprehensive sticky for the audio folks that are not techy, with all the receivers/bd players that can handle the new lossless compression formats. receivers that can decode and bd players that can output. i would think the player list would be relatively short and could be updated as new players become available.
receivers i know this would be more difficult but would be an invaluable resource for those looking for a jumping off point on what equipment will deliver this new quality audio.

I understand where youre coming from, but there is a tab at the top of bluray.com for Players.

Its a bit more difficult for receivers because they evolve so fast (and do so much)...new models coming and going before you know it, models discontinued, USA or Europe? unclear specifications...etc

would be mind boggling (even to keep up with)

just my .02 cents

(EDIT: Maybe someone willing to be dedicated to starting/updating a "receiver list" thread would be interested (hint hint)...myself, I don't have that kind of free time. )

This list that you are hinting about what type of information would you like in this list?

Are you going to give this a try savage? Cause if you are then I won't waste my time, otherwise I'd be happy to see what I can do.
I don't work when I'm at work anyways so I may as well make myself useful

Default pcm, truehd,ma,output decode *Pop*...my head exploding

i had a feeling this would be extremely difficult, but out of everything i have been trying to wrap my head around since i found my way to this site, this has been by far the most confusing. and i know alot of this info is already here just kind of spread around, and thats fine, looking the stuff up is half the fun. i would love to help but i am obviously still a noob on this subject (lazy as hell also )

Woah you live in Spruce Grove? I actually live on a farm north of St.Albert. I just say Edmonton cause it's easier and people recognize it. Unfortunately I used to live in Calgary...and I'm a Flames fan. I hope we can get past that though.

I'll try to think up a few things and let you know. Good luck man!

Default Yeppers Spruce :)

Well First things first. We need to highlight what people want to see and read as the priorities

I was thinking Brand, Model Number, Specs, Images, then links to reviews on the page for that model. also if this was integrated on the site we COULD have reviews like what they do here for the movies as well. kinda like a blu ray buyers guide driven by the community.

this is sort of the idea I was going for, have the A/V and then the seperates, with also a section for Source components.

What do you guys think?

im not sure what would be reputable review sources to link to but i was thinking keep it more to the cold hard specs and legitimate reviews otherwise you get into brand biases and everything else. i was thinking more along the lines of a resource that can narrow your searching options down by giving you a few models in your price range that clearly list their features to investigate. a jumping off point through which you could then search the site for specific threads and real worlds experience on those models.

sometimes when your reading up on these receivers it seems like the companies/retailers word things very vaguely as to make you think it does one thing when it fact it doesn't.

I agree, well for content at least. List the most "common" receivers by brand including technical specs, pictures, and maybe some links to reviews. The article should be unbiased though so no opinions included in the actual article.

As for source components, this is already going to be a big project so I think if you include it you should limit the amount of info there. Maybe just a general overview of source components in relation to A/V receivers.

What about pre processors and amps and such?

I would like to see a diagram or something that explains what the "normal" spots to place speakers. Like I know a Sub should go in a corner. What about the others? The back two with 5.1. Some say above your head others besid, and others behind. Anyway, something like that would be very helpfull. I know everyones hearing is different but a good start would reallly help.

i would think that would be highly dependent on your room size and layout and extremely variable?

I was going to put in there about Room Dimensions, proper wattage to seek out. for example Speaker placement, that sort of thing. that was all going to be included

i was also hoping to see a dedicated Audio section, threads mostly touching the sound formats, setting bitstream vs pcm etc. at one point, some people would be confused as to where to post it.

Just my 2 cents.

Good point. Do you have any insight on the bitstreaming and sorts? that would certainly be helpful

Speaker positioning and other things are all included in some sticky topics in the "Speakers" thread. I think it would be out of the scope of this article to add it in there especially since we already have a forum dedicated strictly to speakers which has some great information.
