Talking Guilty pleasures / Underrated or unfairly criticized 3D movies and conversions

So what titles dont get much kudos but are actually pretty good for 3D? Two i've noticed recently are Priest and Green Hornet. They don't seem to get much credit at all, but both really impressed me, especially Green Hornet which looks fantastic in 3D, really nice depth and some great pop out moments.

let's give a shout out to those unsung gems!

I haven't seen Priest 3D yet but wasn't the biggest gripe being it was too dark...and the 3D gets kind of lost as a result? I'm not knocking it, just asking. Similar to what people complained about with Fright Night 3D during the dark scenes?

I would say Underworld Awakening. LOVE the scene when the SUPER WEREWOLF er whatever walks in to full frame and as he turns he seems to just pop off the screen towards the viewer. It was pretty awesome

Hey mate. The movie is quite dark in a few scenes yes, but not overbearingly so and im perhaps one of the few who still enjoys 3D in dark scenes (i agree that Fright Night was very dark, but i thought that looked great, Priest is not as dark as Fright Night).

I agree on Underworld although i was expecting a bit more depth as it is native 3D. Dont get me wrong, the 3D is very good in it.

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance is another one, IMO anyway. It wasn't great 3D by any means but I found it to be just enough and satisfying. I prefer depth a little more than I do pop-out...which GR has none of that

I agree, GR 3D was very good, i just dont think the shooting style of the directors lends itself to 3D at all. They seem quite proud of the fact that they break a lot of typical rules when it comes to shooting a movie and shooting for something that will be converted to 3D, fair enough, but it was to the detriment of the 3D experience for Ghost Rider IMO.

I would add Captain America to the list. Lots of foreground placement, good parallax, nice depth and a few pop-outs that flow with the action instead of feeling gimmicky.

I agree with Priest. Very underrated all round.
I saw Spy Kids recently and was surprised how good the converted footage was.

Cats and Dogs 2 was similar.

Green hornet absolutely is an underrated gem! LOVE the 3d in that one, and it's still one of the best conversions I've ever seen last time I watched it.

I also have to give a shout out to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, which has been getting an unfair amount of picking-on lately imo. It's been aweile since I last saw it, but I thought the conversion was really really good on that one and really enhanced that movie fore me. Plus that movie had some awesome pop out surprises!(dragon popping out of wall at gringotts anyone? ;D)

And one more I have to put is Thor, still one of my favorite conversions based on last viewing. The Jotunheim sequences are reference 3d imo.

Underworld is also absolutely underrated for 3d! Reference quality in my book and the pop outs are fantastic!

Thats interesting, and I agree, but most people whinge about those bits in Thor the most..Odd people!

I would have to throw Sanctum, Dolphins Tale and Ghost rider as 3 others with vastly underated effects.

The ONLY issue I had with Thor 3D was when they were in the land of the frost giants. I experienced the same issue the reviewer of this site experienced. I know some have said they didn't experience this so perhaps it varies depending on what 3D tech you are using, but it was a rather dull faded mess during these scenes for me. The sharp detailed picture was there, but the colors seemed almost smeary and washed out looking.

The day time scenes in Thor were excellent with nice depth. Though I DID notice the "cardboard cutout" effect in some scenes.

Im sorry if my light-hearted referral to people being ODD offends you or any others. I assure you, it was made in jest.

On the topic though, I have no trouble watching this or even Fright night. I like perceiving 3D in the dark spaces. On that note, Im excited for Doom 3D on ps3...

Back to topic, another underated is The Lorax.

I agree on Spy Kids 4, the 3D was excellent in that. I didn't realise it was a conversion, thought it was native.

Definately a conversion as a came across something on the company that converted it at some point recently and have seen it in this list -

http://realorfake3d.com/

A very good job.

I don't know whether to risk writing this, but I have always enjoyed Clash of the Titans though I can see the errors, it has always amused me.
