Australia australian release dates

for all australian releases, they only come out on wednesdays. some stores break embargo but that does not make it the release date. do not use ezydvd and sanity as a release date as they are not the main retailers. only use jbhifi release dates please. if you see that i have set a date, there is no need to change it (looking at you Deciazulado). thanking you in advance.

DiabolikDVD does a good job of informing customers about Aussie release dates too (at least in the US market).

But I agree, the "official" release dates should be what's documented here, as far as what the original retailer/distributor states.

I have no information about that, but I did have a good interaction with a member last week about Future Man:

[Show spoiler]

As advertised on the outside (~including the individual season releases), it's listed as Region B. It could be that Aussie releases are defaulted to Region B when submitting a title to the database here, but in my experience (including Future Man), Via Vision/Imprint (or even Umbrella!) does NOT region-lock their discs. I have many as examples, and there are YouTube videos (not me) to confirm.

FWIW: I don't know the folks who reviewed S2, but it plays on my Region A Sony player.

Anyway...Region coding aside, I 100% agree that release dates should conform to what the studio states.

It's why we track data like "Retailer exclusive" or "Exclusivity end date" here, right?

hes done it again.... and this time hes locked it. i really dont know what his problem is. im providing pics now to prove he is incorrect with the dates he changes them to

you can clearly see this title was released august 7 in australia. why the hell is changing it to 2 weeks from now?? its already been released australia wide. and seriously why is he locking it?...... i am literally providing correct information for all australian releases and he keeps on changing them. site manager or not, hes providing inaccurate information and i stand by my comments here.

Whoever "he" is, yeah, I can see why that's frustrating.

Both Umbrella & Via Vision (+Imprint) releases are playable in Region A, regardless of what the back of the case says.

FWIW, I only care that the info on this site provides the correct, human-verified info. Otherwise, it'll never be trusted (at least by me).

I'm glad the Aussie companies are putting out the stuff US companies won't (until they catch up, and Shout puts out a shittier release).

there may have been a very select few, like, not even 5 releases that are regB locked. but 99.89% are unlocked

I don't trust Amazon listings (they always say R2, especially for UK releases), but this site is (can be) the best resource for verifying regions...and it could be better.

The reason of using Amazon.au dates for the listing is because they aren't available to order or pre-order from them till they have it. Then I can then check on Amazon.au and add the order or pre-order flag so they appear on the pre-orders list, or people looking to order can check it when they can actually order from the site instead of having to look every day for weeks to see it out to order. A compromise can be made if you put (for example, the jb hi fi or umbrella) date as the retailer exclusive date, and the amazon date as the general release date.

the problem with that is since amazon au are NOT stocking australian titles directly, they are only sold via 3rd partly sellers on the platform hence the incorrect street date. jbhifi is the more accurate street date australia wide

and theyre not jbhifi retail exclusives anyway since sanity/ezydvd sell them also. people can order directly from jbhifi and they ship internationally anyway

OK I can understand that, but this here are the site's listings. So I gave you a compromise.

It's the same as with trying to take down Australian releases listed in the US database that are sold by Amazon US, and otherwise difficult to order from Australia. A compromise. People looking for them in the US can find them and order easier.

Also when you go to an entry that said released today and you see Pre-order pending cus it's not listed on Amazon, and then becomes available on Amazon in a few weeks around the date Amazon listed it doesn't pop on the upcoming orders releases or order releases list on that date but the old date. While having the amazon date puts it where it's "orderable"

You may also be aware that this site, in addition of a place of information also has to be a business. Otherwise there is no site. So even if these are not retailer exclusives, do that. Amazon, Zavvi etc links keeps the site.

The solution would to be add more fields to the entries on the database explaining all kind of minutiae when there's already a lot of them now. So adding "released by umbrella X day and by jb and ezy Z day and on A on D-day", the entry gets too busy.

There's comment fields next to the entry fields when you add info for this, where you can add more info you think it's pertinent, that doesn't clutter the entry page. You could use this and/or alternatively post on the forum on a releases thread.

im more than happy to compromise. hows this, every wednesday when i list an australian item like i usually do, ill list it with the jbhifi date and also add the date in the comments section saying australia wide date. if you see a date that doesnt line up, change it. its fine. when i create listings, i add as much info as possible and even add artwork, asin and ean numbers etc. and every wednesday i check for new asin numbers to add to previously listed items.

I meant it more in like this so it shows why it might not be available to order even tomorrow
