Default The Digital Bits' Call to Action for John Wayne's The Alamo

Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits has posted a new article about the fate of John Wayne's classic "The Alamo". Worth a read and a post to MGM's Facebook and Twitter accounts to get them to stop letting this part of film history disappear.

I've posted on their Facebook page, as well. Hopefully, they will see the public demand, and realize that restoring The Alamo will not only save the film, but benefit them, as well.

Don't they realize that their films are their heritage and their legacy? To willingly let a film like The Alamo disappear is a travesty.

Jesus Christ, if studios don't care anymore...why do they think we should?

Okay, rant over. Probably a longshot, but what about a Kickstarter program?
Seems to work for many other projects.

It reminds me of The Longest Day and Fox. The 70th Anniversary of D-Day is just over a week away and so what did they do? Re-released the same bastardized DNR disc 3 weeks ago.

This is what happens when you take frat boys and frat girls in college get marketing and/or business degrees and then (have no love of film or preservation in general) get hired by companies and then run them. They think a degree make s them business people, which is not true. a degree does not mean squat.

A bunch of bafoons with no brains or sense making idiotic destructive decisions because they have no brains to understand what along term decision means that they would actually make more money, instead they think ignorantly short term

Unfortunately, these days it is true for most large businesses, not just in film. The clowns with 'degrees' May be academically clever, but they certainly are NOT wise. :-(

Instead of funding a restoration, why don't they just preserve what they have so the film could be restored at a later date?

Why the big "secret" concerning Mr. Harris current project? It's not like the studios are competing with restoration work

Oh (I get it - "The Alamo" is the secret film - this announcement is just to throw us off track)

Is there a reason why a Kickstarter (or some other form of social backing system) couldn't be used to show validity in people's support? Or is that still "showing MGM in a negative light?"

As already said by Robert Harris, MGM has no interest in that concept, even if the film is lost.

Isn't allowing a film to deteriorate beyond repair "showing MGM in a more negative light?"

I am sure Criterion would jump at the chance for this! They need to let Criterion do the restoration and have rights to it for a time at least. Maybe getting the Wayne family involved? Think a couple of his kids were in that film.
