Default Soñadores / The Dreamers (2003) Bertolucci film

I'm interested in this and am looking at the 2018 issue Spanish blu-ray.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-D...lu-ray/206951/

Can someone tell me if it is region locked? I can play region B, but if it works on Region A players, that would be nice as well. The other two things I'd like to check are:

1) is this fully uncut?

2) Are Spanish subtitles NOT forced (able to be turned off) for the English audio.

Any help from someone who has this disc appreciated. I'm also considering the Korean issue.

It´s region locked. I think is uncut but not completely sure (runtime is 1:54:18) and forced subtitles, sorry.

Got this and gave it a watch last night. One thing to be aware of is it isn't really English friendly. The audio is in English and French, but you don't have any English subs for the French parts. The disc has Spanish subs that I could not turn off. There was no option to remove them. If I brought up my subs menu and tried to turn them off, I'd get "operation blocked by disc". On the set up menu there was only one setting under subs - Castellano.

So I could still tell what was going on and could decipher a smattering of the French via the Spanish subs, but I'm not fluent, so I missed a lot of dialog.

I saw this film when it was released in cinemas but could not recall if all audio was English or whether there were parts in French. Thanks for clarifying that. On the subject of removing unwanted onscreen subs I sometimes find that trying to do that through the menu is not possible but simply clicking on the 'subtitles' button on your remote does the trick.

Not here. That's what I was doing and getting "operation blocked by disc" error message.

It's astonishing producers of these don't have a standard format in clear packaging for what customers are actually getting. I recently bought a Bogart boxset from a French seller on Amazon. Packaging states films are viewable in VO, version originale but French subs cannot be removed on four of the five titles. Fortunately the seller gave a full refund.

I, too, saw this in cinemas when it was released here in the US. There are some parts spoken in French, but very few. Sadly, I have to live with my DVD copy of the film since there is no bluray release in the US. The DVD is fine for the most part, but it would be nice to see a 4K picture.

Looks like there is a 4K announced in the UK to be released in April 2024. Not sure if it's the Uncut version though..

Updated specs on the UK 4K.

The highly anticipated two-disc special edition release includes the restored feature on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray, with more than three hours of bonus materials:
• Cinema, Sex and Politics: Bertolucci makes The Dreamers and The Making of The Dreamers - Across two in-depth featurettes, experience how the film was brought to life from script to screen and uncover the real events of 1968 that inspired this remarkable story. Featuring extensive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and crew. (55 mins)
• Feature commentary with Bernardo Bertolucci, writer Gilbert Adair and producer Jeremy Thomas (114 mins)
• Interviews with Bernardo Bertolucci, Eva Green, Michael Pitt, Louis Garrel, Gilbert Adair and Jeremy Thomas (25 mins)
• B-Roll - take a step behind the camera to witness the filmmaking process and iconic sets from a unique perspective (11 mins)
• Original trailer and 4K remastered trailer (3 mins)

PLUS, four exclusive art cards and film poster.

Synopsis calls out the original cut.

EDIT: Most of the previous special features are being ported but two seem to be missing.
"Outside the Window: Events in France, May 1968" featurette (13:50)
Music Video “Hey Joe” by Michael Pitt and the Twins of Evil (3:42)

These are available on most previous DVDs and the South Korean Blu-ray.
I believe the German Blu-ray has the 68 featurette but not the music video.

^^^^^^
Is there any confirmation that this is the completely uncut version (what was released in the U.S. as the NC-17 version)? I did read in the synopsis that this was the 'original cut', but don't want to assume they're the same thing.

It's listed as 114mins which corresponds to the Director's cut (Not the shorter US R-rated version) but no way to tell for sure until it's out. I can't imagine they would have scanned/remastered a shorter American edit.

Of note, just checked and there are actually two extras that are not coming over from most earlier DVDs and the previous South Korean Blu-ray..

"Outside the Window: Events in France, May 1968" featurette
(13:50)
Music Video “Hey Joe” by Michael Pitt and the Twins of Evil (3:42)

I just got my copy of this today:

Runtime on the back of the slip says 115 minutes...

So it is, in fact, the full NC-17 Uncut version!

No official UK 4K disc thread, so I'll post this here:

Comparison to the Unrated German Koch Media BluRay

The image quality is a vast improvement and the video frame is zoomed out a bit adding extra image area mostly to the left side of the frame.

Yeah I watched a few minutes of my copy last week when I received it... it looks amazing...

If you are a fan of this film... this is definitely a release you should be picking up!

The extra image being mostly on the left makes me suspect that they left in parts of the frame that were supposed to be left out, including the part of the film reserved for the audio track, a la the original Willy Wonka blu-ray where the compositions were all thrown off. (Wonka, Bertolucci, equally sacrosanct obviously)
