Default Profile 2.0 question

Keep hearing about this new Blu-Ray format thats coming, now I just bought a PS3 to use as both a game machine and Blu player.

Is this going to be upgradeable or did I just waste 500$ ?

PS3 will be upgradable to Profile 2.0. It is currently Profile 1.1.

Lets say for example that it wasn't. (which isn't true)
Why would it be a waste of $500?
What are you expecting 2.0 to do that you can't do now?

Buying a PS3 is not a waste of money, far from it. You just bought one of the best Blu Players out there. Well worth every penny you spent.

No worries, you did the right move.

Its all about personal value...

I'd feel like I wasted that money if that were the case. I can't explain it but if I'm gonna pay that much money I better be getting all the features available and planned in the future for that piece of equipment.

Thats just me. I feel bad for owners of Profile 1.0 players and even the Profile 1.1 players. I understand that they play the movies (most of them anyways assuming that they don't have any hardware problems) but for me that wouldn't be enough.

Thats why I stayed on the fence until Bluray won.

Exactly. The movie will play no matter what player you happen to have, from the first samsung bdp1000 to the ps3. 2.0 just adds internet connectivity and won't be used by the majority of people. For that matter 1.1 will hardly even be used as well.

Question regarding this 2.0. Im looking at the blu ray box for Saw IV now and under system requirments it says "blu-ray optical disc player and HD TV. *Requires Blu-ray Profile 2.0 or internet connected BD player for full access to features.

Can anyone tell me what i am missing out on since i own a ps3??

So 2.0 would be the deal breaker?
Funny how that one little feature "watching studio pumped ads", would be a deal breaker.

Makes me wonder how many HD-DVD users even hooked up the ethernet port on their $99 closeout players.

Extras do add that "hook" but I am going to hate if every time I fire up a disk a different preview is forced down my throat before I get to watch the movie.

Not much since I don't think anyone here has a 2.0 player.
Not on sale yet. Soon though.

agreed. i think that the above guesstimate that 90% of folks won't even bother using the upcoming 2.0 features is pretty optimistic. i'm going for >95%.

it's certainly possible that studios will come up with something truly compelling in terms of internet connected content, but if the shit that the HD DUD camp has managed to come up with is any indication...
