Paramount Better Man 4K UHD (2024)

Quote:
Better Man will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting on February 11, 2025. It will also arrive on DVD and in a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray combo on May 13, 2025.

From Michael Gracey, the visionary director of The Greatest Showman, BETTER MAN has been embraced by both critics and audiences, becoming Certified Fresh™ on Rotten Tomatoes®, receiving a tremendous 90% audience score, and earning an Academy Award® nomination for Best Visual Effects. Hailed as “wildly inventive” (Pete Hammond, Deadline), “jaw-dropping” (Peter Debruge, Variety), and “deliriously entertaining” (Chris Bumbray, JoBlo), BETTER MAN“absolutely sizzles from start to finish” (Perri Nemiroff, Collider).

Fans who purchase BETTER MAN on Digital* or 4K Ultra HD will have access to over 45 minutes of behind-the-scenes bonus content featuring director Michael Gracey and star Robbie Williams, as well as the Oscar®-nominated team behind the spectacular visual effects.

Bonus content is detailed below:
  • Let Me Entertain You: The Making of Better Man — Director Michael Gracey and star Robbie Williams provide an in-depth look behind the vision and production of the film with additional insight from the cast and crew.
  • Monkey Business: The VFX — Meet the visual effects team of Wētā FX as they delve into the process of using cutting-edge technology to bring Better Man to life.
Synopsis

Better Man is based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams, one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Under the visionary direction of Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), the film is uniquely told from Williams’ perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Robbie’s journey from childhood, to being the youngest member of chart-topping boyband Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist – all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring.
BETTER MAN is rated R for drug use, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity, and some violent content.

I guess they're trying to sell more copies of it on 4K by giving it more prestige via making it part of the PP line since it wasn't met with much enthusiasm here in the states. Interesting.

A Presents release honestly makes no sense whatsoever. I doubt it's going to increase sales in any meaningful way at all, especially if the pricing is higher than a standard 4K release. It feels like the line is on its last legs as it is, so I guess they're doing whatever they can to keep it afloat. From the press releae it doesn't sound like there will even be a separate Blu-ray release, just this combo.

Hahahaha, this is amazing. I never would have imagined they would have stuck with a US 4K release, and to give it essentially the boutique treatment is such a funny approach. Will gladly be purchasing!

Paramount makes the most random decisions what movies to release, which ones are encoded on a potato, and which ones get hit with the DNR sticks. There's no method to their madness.

For the American users...

Robbie Williams
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not to be confused with Robin Williams.

I find it a little amusing that Paramount poured so much money into this thinking it would be a hit when it's so very obvious that it would bomb hard. Like, a Robbie Williams biopic, which no one gives a shit about, but also transforming him into a CGI chimp?? Whoever greenlit this for a $100+ million budget shouldn't be working in the industry.

Pleasantly surprised this is getting a UHD given how badly it performed. It's a good film, though! Americans need to accept Robbie Williams into their heart. Rock DJ slaps.

A welcome surprise. I was worried we'd be stuck with a Blu-ray only release.

Sadly that's the only song of his I really know, and it's 25 years old now. (God, I miss my college years. Well... parts of them. )

Sounds like he never broke the US with that black and white cowboy video with Darryl Hannah, like he and the record company had planned.

This is the funniest way they could've released this movie

mind you that paramount is apparently no longer doing solo Blu ray releases and going for only packs with 4k & Blu ray, which means the only way to get this film is through their limited run boutique division.

I thought this was never getting a physical release in the US, but does Entertainment Film Distributors own the rights in the UK?

Day one! You don't need to know who Robbie Williams is to appreciate this film. A really inventive spin on the typical "musician contends with fame" bio. Our party of three at the cinema unanimously loved it.

The film was produced independently in the UK and Australia, Paramount simply only acquired NA distribution rights for around $25 million

Thanks for clarifying. Same point applies regardless of who greenlit it though. Anyone could have seen it would be a bomb. Even $25 million by Paramount was way too much, and it looks like they lost over $20 million on that decision.

There is more to life and running a studio then pure return on investment - this is a film to be proud of that the studio wanted to own as it will enjoy a robust life over years to come, and shows Paramount as a home for such quality pictures. And we are so lucky to have it thanks to such courageous studio heads willing to take chances, as the alternative is no movie.

Courageous or stupid? It's decisions like this that lead to a studio losing millions if not billions, and eventually having to be sold. As nice and altruistic as you seem to make it, studios really aren't in a position in this climate to not prioritize making a return on their investment. Making bad investments like these will ultimately cost people their jobs.

Spot on. Robbie Williams is big in the UK. He tried to make it in the US around 2000, but it didn't work at all. Nobody knows who the hell he is in the US.

Paramount has so many catalogue releases that should get the treatment, not new releases like this that won't sell at all.
