About time!

So what’s missing? Just Mauvaise Graine, The Spirit of St Louis and Buddy, Buddy?

Also, Kino is releasing Five Graves to Cairo as well.

I have 13 examples of his genius in my collection, but I am always yearning for more. This will help quite nicely. Job well done!

I’ve got 7 of his Blus in my collection. I didn’t even realize he had directed some of these awesome classics! Thanks for starting this thread!

I JUST re-watched my dvd of this two nights ago and it really is wonderful- has Wilder and Hawk's signatures all over it, so it's a perfect collaboration. I'd love for Criterion to get a hold of it.

Also missing is The Emperor Waltz, a Bing Crosby pic that was a pretty decent failure.

It's released in France and it's listed at the bottom of the first post.

Not the director, but he also co wrote two of my favorite movies, Ninotchka and Hold Back the Dawn.

Most are region locked but "Irma la Douce" and "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" will work with the top menu trick on any Blu Ray player.

Also, Five Graves to Cairo is coming to the US via Kino, so you can add that if you like.

Love this guy, big fan. I already own the German release of A Foreign Affair but I'll happily get the UK release too for the Billy Wilder interview alone.

Does anyone know if Five Graves to Cairo and The Emperor Waltz have forced subs?

Elephant Films, who releases FGTC, don't force the subs.

As for TEW, I'm not sure. I would say they are not forced, as my two other Remini releases (City Streets & Somewhere in the Night) don't have forced subs.

Me and a couple of buddies do a "Director Day" every few months and rotate who gets to choose the movies. We usually watch 3 and it's a great way to keep up with my friends and for us to have some good food and enjoy movies together.

I was up a couple months back and chose Wilder. A very enjoyable time.....we watched "Some Like It Hot" (which still holds up well), "Double Indemnity" (take a drink every time Fred MacMurray says baby and you'll have to go to the hospital), and "Sunset Boulevard" (was really WOW'ed by this one). I also have since watched "The Apartment" and "Stalag 17". Not a single movie of his that I haven't enjoyed so far!

It's also worth noting the short film "Death Mills", an informational film made for the War Department in 1945. There were two versions: one German and the other English. Though not credited, Wilder is believed to have been the producer/writer/director for the English-language version.

It's included in the Kino Classics edition of The Stranger:

Sadly I currently only have Double Indemnity in my collection. I've seen loads of his other films but have never bought any in physical form. This has inspired me to change that, Billy Wilder buying spree here I come!
