Spain Divisa Home Video Classic Releases

I'd like to open this thread just to remind people there seems to be an excellent Spanish label out there, specialized in classic movies (as well as TV series). Their latest releases include some masterworks from silent era:

But also some Spanish classic titles such as:

If you have bought any BD from their catalog, please share your experience. Good/mediocre PQ & AQ? 1080p/1080i? Forced subtitles? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I recently ordered Almodóvar's Matador from Divisa.
As soon as I get my copy, I'll provide my feedback 😃

If I have understood some Spanish language articles correctly (I don't know Spanish...) Divisa and Mercury Films have recently made a deal to release over 300 Spanish produced or co-produced movies on Blu-Ray & DVD in the next 3 years. 10-12 titles per month.

Unfortunately the articles mentioned grain removal and the two discs I got (spaghetti westerns, They Call Me Trinity & Gunfight at Red Sands) confirm that.
Film grain has been completely removed. With some additional problems resulting from some other filters I guess... like the center of rocks being removed leaving only the outlines (They Call Me Trinity).

The source for They Call Me Trinity seems to have been quite good and the disc would have probably looked very nice without the filtering. Now it is simply shit (IMHO, I'm sure some would really love it so don't decide not to buy simple because I said it sucks ). Spanish & English audio. The length suggests it is also finally uncut (almost all (and maybe all the good quality ones?) of the available English language DVDs are missing around 5minutes).

Unfortunately the Gunfight at Red Sands disc is even worse. Much worse. I don't know if their source was HD or not but the result has nothing to do with HD anymore. Even a DVD could look better. Only Spanish audio on this disc and no subtitles.

If this is how all the 300 discs will be presented....

Anyways, for those interested there are some shots from the discs here http://www.spaghettiwesterndvds.com/...idad-blu-rays/

Yes, it's a shame because last month they released a Spanish cinema classic I was really looking forward to: Berlanga's Placido; unfortunately the disc has been heavily DNRed and filtered. There are some screen caps here if you wish to see the result.

Let's hope people at Divisa have made changes to their editorial modus operandi (Gaumont did this in France) so the next batch of releases won't be plagued by the same problems.

However, my copy of Keaton's The General is very good. I'm eager to see an anouncement by Cohen Media for an U.S. release so we can compare its PQ with the Spanish edition.

I already received my copy of "Matador" (Pedro Almodovar).

The disc is region free. You can go ahead without problems on such regard.
As for picture quality, this title has been treated also with a lot of "Digital Noise Reduction" applied to the film. The quality is not awful though.

Sound comes in DTS-HD 2 channels. Not great, but still works.

Tomorrow will be released Murnau's Faust.

I hope we'll be getting screen caps of this release very soon.

Also, new titles for June have been added.

Are there English subtitles?

Can anybody advise on the PQ on this set, and whether the subtitles are forced?

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere but Divisa have released Ken Loach's Land And Freedom on Blu. Not available elsewhere though maybe someone else will pick it up. Given the subject matter, it's not a surprise to see it turn up on this label.

It doesn't mention it but there are English subs. To have them for the non-English parts you get them for the English parts as well, though. Something that doesn't bother me, as I often put English subs on as my hearing can get wonky with too much going on, but might put others off. Near the beginning there is some onscreen Spanish text where it would usually be English but that's translated in the subs as well. Extras are mostly Spanish language with a few bits in English from cast & creatives.
