Excellent, this will hopefully replace an expensive import of the announced French disc.

December 5, 2006 was indeed a banner day for U.S. DVD with the excellent releases of The Conformist and 1900 from Paramount.

First day purchase...

Marlon Brando was incredible... And Bertolucci's Direction was superb.

It's already been 4 years!?

Another great announcement, so much so that I'll spend some time with the DVD tonight.

This time around the U.S. cover looks better

Let's hope for a solid transfer.

Forgive me, this is one of those rare moments wherein I have no idea what the other person is going for. I own and love the Paramount dvd, but I'm clearly talking BD here. Still, I'll take what Bertolucci I can get on these wacky acryllic-coated discs.
Edit - Nevermind - I think I was reading sarcasm there where there was none.

Just that I remember buying and seeing both films and their excellent transfers on DVD. It was a roundabout way of agreeing that I would also like to see The Conformist on BD.

Yeah, I totally saw what you were going for after my response. Haha sorry. Last Tango's being rolled out first makes pefect sense in that it's the all-around better-known and more celebrated title, but I think it's just a matter of time...

I know many people loved this movie but I caught it on television when my cable system used to carry HDNet movies and I just couldn't sit thru it. But I am glad for all the people who do want it.

Hmmm... The Conformist is still a Paramount title in the US as far as I know, so it may be a matter of rather a long time.

That was both helpful and supportive. No really

For what it's worth, that wasn't spiteful, "You're an awful person" sarcasm, but just playful, "Thanks for reminding me I'll probably be waiting a looong time for The Conformist on BD" sarcasm. I probably should have capped that with a smile or razz or something instead of a wink. Damn emoticons. But yes you're right, I really don't see it happening anytime soon either.

with that title I'd have to think never is more like it unfortunately.
I mean the way Paramount is going I just can't ever see it.
at least not from them; licensed is the only hope imo.

I've never seen this movie, what are the differences between the R and the Uncut versions?
