Default Scent Of A Woman 01 May 2024 - Via Vision

Has anybody compared the new 2024 release of Scent Of A Woman (MPEG-4 AVC) from Via Vision.

With the old OOP 2010 Univeral (VC-1) release? If so any improvement? Both releases are bare bones with no extras only audio and subtitle differences.

Is it confirmed that this is AVC?

It is not AVC. It's the same ancient VC-1 transfer from Universal. It's just a repackaged disc. Even has the same English 5.1 remix and French 2.0 DTS track from an older disc. It's passable to watch. Maybe way back when when this was released on HD DVD it looked great, but it looks really dated now and almost like it's an upscale. Here's a scan from BDInfo:

Either the listing was created based on unconfirmed, pre-release specs that never happened or it was basically someone optimistically hoping it was a new transfer and filling in what they hoped were the disc specs.

You should go and submit the correct specs for this entry. Since we now know they are incorrect for the Via Vision release.

I would have expected more from a company that sells there releases at premium prices. Even if they are just re-releases of previous releases and listing it as a Special Edition on there web site is even worse. Especially if there isn't actually anything added or different to the previous release that makes it special. Changing the cover art and removing audio/subtitle tracks doesn't count if that's all they have done with this release.

Glad I never got the new release. I still have the original Universal blu-ray. Which I only paid $5 for back in February 2013. Since we now know that it is currently still the only release available of this film

Yeah I will look into updating those specs. I've never done it before but I bet I can figure it out.

And, yeah, I was a bit surprised as well thinking that maybe what I bought was an actually the older version but it has updated 2024 copyrights on the packaging and the product code was VVE3833 which is what matches their listing there. Also it is a real shame they didn't take the opportunity to do a new transfer as the current transfer looks super, super dated. Good thing the movie is still really good.

Edit to add:

Submitted spec updates to the listing.
