France Texas Chainsaw (2013) Blu-ray 3D [Region Locked / Free] [Unrated in France]

Moderator note:

Texas Chainsaw 3D has been released in various region locked and region free editions. See comparison of Texas Chainsaw 3D blu-ray releases. There is also a Canadian release with an alternate title card and a Hong Kong release which is probably the R-rated version like all the others except the French and unrated German releases (region B locked) which are the only ones that include the unrated cut of the film. See here for further discussion of the movie and its various releases.

Original post:

Release Date : January 2013
3D : Native (Red epic)

We can use this thread for posting the 3D trailer when it comes out and eventually discuss the 3D blu-ray.

Thanks. I'm a big fan of the original 1973-4 TCM movie thanks to it's comical villains especially, who were well developed characters and not one dimensional as Leatherface was in the past remake.

Hopefully this one remembers what made the first one great. Letting the actors improvise and give their scenes some breathing room to shine.

This was made in 3D? Or post converted?

Caught this 3D trailer of TCM3D before Silent Hill Revelation 3D and this looks to have strong 3D. Very nicely done for the trailer. Here's hoping the movie isn't just another retread of the same thing with empty characters.

Leatherface needs the personality he had from the first original movie (Gunnar Hansen) or any type of personality instead of just any guy in a mask relentlessly running with a chainsaw.

I liked the Original and the remakes and this one looks to be very good. From what I heard this one picks up right where the original left off...is that true? Its also shot in 3D! That will be scarier then shit if its done right and I am crossing my fingers that it is. Leatherface along with Michael Myers scared the crap out of me when I was younger so again this should be a good one.

I think you may be right in that it might pick up where the first one left off, as they were driving an older model van type vehicle from what I remember from the 3D trailer. That would be a good move, but I'm guessing we'll be missing the personality of the original cannibal family unless they try to recapture their quirky performances, which is very unlikely with today's big budget horror movies; which often washes down the personality of the villains so they're all the same with different masks, with mostly disposable victims except for the lead actress or actor.

That's the sense the trailer gives anyway, but I hope it turns out good. The 3D looks promising, and based on the scenery, here's hoping this is more inspired by the original from the 1974 released film TCM, than the most recent one.

I'll check it out.

Nope, this is a brand new one! It's suppose to be a direct sequel to the original.

What day is this being released in theaters? I hope it's at least half as great as the first TCM was, but I can't imagine how, so I'll go in with low expectations and hope the villains have the same comical characterizations as the first movie's family.

These days, most movies (not all) in the Slasher genre take the villain, make them with zero personality, like a machine going after a group of mostly jerks and maybe one likeable hero. I hope it's not the same stuff with a different coat of paint, but the trailer points in that direction.

Leatherface and his father and brother in the original from 1973-4, each had personalities and comical interactions with each other rarely seen in horror movies, like when the father scolds Leatherface "You ruined the door!" after he cut a hole in it. Or when the brother says "Grandpa's the best. Let Grandpa do it." To paraphrase. Those little things tell the audience a lot about the characters and how they view/treat each other.

The 3D looked really good in the trailer.

Agreed. Good post.

Not to mention that Marilyn Burns certainly turned in one of the breast, (oops!)best performances in a horror movie, ever. period.

Yes, she was great as the lead heroine/hero, along with Franklin and the others, who were also likeable.

Just saw TCM 3D today and the 3D was really good, above average, sometimes strong with nice 3D layering and depth, with some decent pop outs. When they tossed things at the screen, it made the audience jump back a bit, but when Leatherface aimed his saw slowly into the screen, the effect was minimized by weak lighting, since it was too dark to really get the pop out effect, or the fact they might not have pushed the cameras far enough apart during that shot.

The movie, executive produced by Tobe Hooper (original writer/director of TMC 1973), also had a brief glimpse of Gunnar Hansen, the original Leatherface, though here, if I'm right, he only had a brief, two line cameo as an old man with a white beard in the beginning of the film, not as leatherface, who was played by someone else, who did a good job capturing the movement of the original, but not the great vocal sounds he first made. This character, barely making a sound.

The strange thing, this takes place nearly 40 years later, yet Leatherface appears
[Show spoiler]as young as he was back then for the most part, as if he never aged. Another strange thing, the original had the family of Father, Grandpa, and the two brothers with Grandma upstairs in her rocker, but here, about six additional relatives appear out of nowhere without explanation, for the sake of telling the story about the baby girl.

As I imagined, the lead is mostly likeable, but her friends are jerks. Leatherface is mostly a mindless machine, but shows some personality by the end, demonstrated with his connection with one of the characters in the film, which helps create a "Who should I root for, as the good guys are now being portrayed as bad guys, and the bad guys are more like good guys in this one." So that was a nice addition to the plot, as tough as it was to believe.
The tension would have been greater if the victims weren't jerks, excluding the main hero. It was decent, but can't touch the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre for style, music, characters, etc.

This one showed the gore, which was well done by Greg Nicotero (Day of the Dead, Walking Dead, etc).

What was cool, was they converted some of the original clips from the 73 TCM for the opening credits. The film takes place in modern times though.

TCM's 3D: A mix of medium to strong 3D, sometimes diminished by dark scenery.

Previews in 3D:
GI JOE 2 in 3D. The 3D looks strong and if it's this good by the time the film is released March 2013, this is one to buy on Blu Ray 3D. Looks awesome for the 3D. It's possible they enhanced the trailer, but here's hoping these are actual 3D shots from the conversion of the film itself, not just the trailer shots.

The 3D turned out well and fans of the original might be interested to see how this turns out, since Hooper and Gunnar are both involved, plus the clips from the original movie in the opening credits.

It had a couple fun moments, but over all I was disappointed with it. I didn't really like how it played out.
[Show spoiler] It started out good, and then everyone was dead in a flash, before the movie barely had a chance to get going. Then it just turned weird. Didn't quite understand how she so readily accepted the monster as her cousin, especially after she just saw him hack her friends to pieces. That just wouldn't happen. Not even with the mayor after her. For a moment there I thought she was going to push him into the grinder. But instead she becomes his caretaker, strange.
I liked Texas Chainsaw The Beginning way better. The best thing about this one was watching the brunette. Damn is she ever perfect. But it seemed the cameraman had a fixation with the other girls ass, lol. Maybe the next one will be more to my liking.

I got off work early Sunday and decided to catch the noon show. That was a mistake. Should have waited until Monday because even being an early show it cost me $11.00 Forgot that it would cost more. That was too much for it, a bit of a waste.

Looking forward to The Evil Dead remake. That looks pretty wicked. Didn't look like it will be 3D though. I didn't get any 3D trailers at all.
