I played the first two levels, having a good time with it. The energy of the game makes me want to go back and finish Sunset Overdrive.
I also tried to “jump in” with cloud streaming, as expected it was not easy. Still managed to get the timing right but with at least a 1/2 second delay it was not consistent. |

At the time it reminded me of JSR/F and Lollipop Chainsaw, it's been a long time since I played it and I was way too busy to finish games back when it was released. I feel like giving it another go, maybe on PC for higher fps. Seems like a game that should get optimized for Series X|S, but I suppose that would require SIE and Xbox to cooperate, unlikely these days. |

Finished my first play through this weekend, it was really fun. I may go through again to get a few things that I couldn't the first time through, but I don't think I have enough rhythm to complete all of the challenges and achievements.

We're living in the second gaming industry crash. Absolutely no one is safe; no matter how big your parent company is or how good your games are, if you're not selling 10+ million copies you're expendable.

This right here. All the big gaming companies just want to chase that live service/mobile games money. Us core gamers don’t make them enough money, any longer.

I'm not ready to attribute Xbox's woahs to the industry as a whole just yet. They have their own unique set of issues to work through. I think the industry is definitely going through a course correction right now, much of which is attributed to the over hiring/investing because of the COVID boom. When I start seeing mass layoffs at Nintendo and PlayStation, then I'll say it's an industry wide issue. But crash? No, the industry isn't crashing (yet). The problem for Xbox is when you throw your games in a subscription service day one, how do you even define success under that model? HAS Xbox communicated a clear and achievable path for success with these studios or have they been making it up as they go along? My suspicion is this decision did not come from Phil Spencer and the Xbox team. This came down from Satya Nadella and the MS execs. I think up until MS spent almost 90 billion dollars on Zenimax and Activision, MS allowed the Xbox division a certain level of autonomy. However when you spend that much money (remember, Activision was MS' largest acquisition in the company's history!) you're going to feel pressure from shareholders to start making that money back. I think that's why these studios were shut down and I think that's why Xbox is transitioning to a 3rd party publisher. They simply cannot make back this money on revenue solely generated by Game Pass and console sales. And Xbox has conditioned their users to NOT buy games due to Game Pass so software sales aren't what they should be. I also believe more Xbox studios will be closing and if Hellblade 2 doesn't hit, I'm afraid Ninja Theory might be one of them. I think eventually the Xbox name will go away, the division will be known as "Microsoft Gaming", and they will become a full-throated 3rd party publisher. They'll still offer hardware in some form or fashion but I believe it will be more niche and possibly heavily cloud dependent. It might even be a more open platform like PC. And even when you are you pull a square enix and say it’s “below expectations.”
This even rubs it in a little more. https://twistedvoxel.com/microsoft-h...ngo-gameworks/ Last edited by dyne; 05-07-2024 at 03:59 PM. |
