It's also my favorite submarine flick. I doubt I'll upgrade my DVD, but for those who don't have it yet this will probably be a no-brainer.

Actually, one commands a sub (Jurgens), the other commands a destroyer (Mitchum).

I just the other day looked to see if this film had a region A release. One of Mitchum's best (and that is saying something, when you look at his body of work). He underplays his scenes with such a sense of war weriness. The DVD has a nice picture, but I'm sure the BD will look stunning

My favorite Kino/Fox announcement along with The Ox-Bow and The Mark of Zorro. Also, the best announcement of the day.

I first saw The Enemy Below as a child when it was first released and have only seen it a few times since. Looking forward to seeing this on Blu. Finally.

Wink Inspired A Star Trek Episode

According to Wikipedia, The Enemy Below was an inspiration for the Star Trek Original Series episode "Balance Of Terror" in the 1st season.

If you ever have a chance to see that you will find a similar theme but in space not on the ocean.

There's also an episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea that lifts a lot of the battle footage from this movie.

It is a shame that it is not subtitled for deaf and hard of hearings.

Looks like Kino just recycled the old DVD master.
This is the biggest home video disappointment of the year for me so far, why even bother releasing it? I happily would have waited if it meant we got a new scan.
Damnit, Fox!

Though it looks soft, its definitely HD but an older master that was used for the DVDs. Biggest disappointment is the audio, though its lossless its a 2.0 matrixed downmix of the 4 channel that the DVD had.

I really enjoyed the movie; shame the transfer is so mucked up.

I never knew the ocean could be that blue. Or Robert Mitchum that orange.
