Interestingly this makes no mention of the 4K scan being approved by Friedkin (whereas the specs for the BD did). Between that and the inclusion of the mono track, it's looking pretty positive that Arrow are undoing Friedkin's tampering. Hopefully we get confirmation after it's officially announced.

The announcement says it’s a “brand new 4K remaster,” which I’m taking as confirmation this won’t have the Friedkin issues.

Yeah, but you often see "brand new remaster" applied to scans that are years old.

Arrow have created new masters despite previous releases being from a 4K source (see Deep Red), so there is precedent.

Even if it’s from the scan made for the 2019 Blu-ray, there has also been precedent where Arrow has gone in and tinkered with the color grade (see Phenomena); which would be on the table considering this will have a DV/HDR grade.

Great news—and I don’t own the Blu-Ray and I’m not even a fan of this film particularly. Any re-do of a previous Friedkin home video disaster is a good—nay, great thing.

Insane how loaded this is compared to the original release. It just shows how they could’ve included most of this at the time but didn’t. Will definitely be double dipping but this whole thing is unfortunate.

He messed with the transfer but there’s no evidence that he blocked any of the extras.

We know Friedkin canned a new commentary. My guess is a lot of the extras here were also canned by him at the time.

Amazing, amazing release. As much as I love Friedkin as a director, he shouldn’t have been involved in the home video releases of his films as much as he was. While it’s extremely unfortunate that it took his passing to enable a release like that, his films will now look better than ever.
