Basically it was filmed in 2 versions (clothed & unclothed similar to how some Spanish films were done near the end of General Franco's reign) hence the 2 ratings.

There's also a bit more gore in the Cat III version, though not a ton... and granted, I think one of the gore shots was cut more for nudity than gore (basically blood dripping down a bare chest). Ironically, the only bit of nudity that survived in the Cat II version was Ken Lo's bare backside in one scene

The movie is so cheesy but features among the best fight scenes from Donnie Yen. I'm glad it's getting the HD treatment by 88 Films!

On the subject of Donnie Yen, I hope to see more titles in the near future. Like Drunken Tai Chi (HK and Taiwanese Cuts), Mismatched Couples, Crystal Hunt, Heroes Among Heroes, Asian Cop: High Voltage (Filipino and export cuts), Legend of the Wolf, and Shanghai Affairs.

Can be a nightmare when ordering titles, only to find out a couple months later they are also comin from VS, sometimes in the sub package.

Yep. I believe all home video releases in Hong Kong were Cat3, while the international version was Cat2. That's my recollection, at least. I have no idea which version would be considered "correct" by the director or producers. I assume Cat3 but maybe the nudity was just a moneymaking ploy by the producers? (Not that I'm complaining. )

Eternal Evil of Asia would be a good one to release if possible

I think Cameron Entertainment (Mei Ah subsidiary) put that one out back in the day. As long as Mei Ah still has the rights and has access to the elements, EEoA should be doable. Hopefully 88 or Eureka can also license Black Magic With Buddha. It's available for licensing, although I'm told the elements aren't in the best shape. (If nothing else, that film's right up VinSyn's alley. Look for it next year at the earliest.)

The Cat-3 version was the intended version. I believe the clothed variant was produced for export to countries with less broad minds.
