Several cast and crew members have shared their hopes for a KPop Demon Hunters sequel.
While blockbusters like F1, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and Superman are dominating conversations about summer 2025's biggest movies, one surprise hit is quietly stealing the spotlight: KPop Demon Hunters.
Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters premiered on June 20 and quickly captured the hearts of viewers around the world. Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the animated musical tells the story of HUNTR/X, a K-pop group that moonlights as demon hunters. Their latest threat is none other than the Saja Boys, a rival boy band that's actually a group of disguised demons.
The movie has skyrocketed in popularity, earning acclaim for its vibrant animation, catchy soundtrack, standout voice performances, and engaging storyline.
It wraps up with an optimistic finale, but is there a second movie in the works? Here's what we know about a potential KPop Demon Hunters sequel.
Will there be a KPop Demon Hunters sequel?
As of writing, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have not officially confirmed a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters. However, fans have plenty of reasons to stay optimistic.
KPop Demon Hunters has received widespread critical praise, sitting pretty at a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's also been a massive hit with audiences around the world and has remained a constant presence in Netflix's global Top 10 movies for several weeks.
The soundtrack debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 and has since climbed to the No. 2 spot. The song "Golden" also peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 10, with 18.8 million streams, per Variety.
Behind the scenes, the filmmakers are already thinking about where the story could go next. In a June 2025 interview with ScreenRant, Kang and Appelhans hinted that the world of KPop Demon Hunters is far from fully explored.
"There are always side stories, and there are things we've thought of while making this one," Kang said. "There are a lot of questions that are answered, but not fully. I think there are a lot of pockets that we can explore."
Weeks later, Kang expanded on those comments in an interview with Variety, emphasizing the depth of the characters' untold stories. "We've set up so much for potential backstory," she explained. "There’s a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes."
"This was Rumi's story," she added, referring to the film's protagonist. "We have backstories for Zoey and Mira — ones that we actually put in the movie, but it just kind of rejected it. It just wasn't the movie for those stories."
